JoeInOburg Posted November 4, 2009 ID:153250 Share Posted November 4, 2009 Have had a personal guard and vundo issue for the last week. Each time I think I've cleared it up it pops back a few days later.Had to rename the exe file, and was able to update and scan. Below is my most recent malwarebytes scan log and after that is my most recent hijackthis scan log.Any advice on the next steps to eradicate this mess, would be greatly appreciated. BHowett Posted November 4, 2009 ID:153298 Share Posted November 4, 2009 Hello JoeInOburg, and welcome to Malwarebytes! My name is BHowett and I will be helping you to get sorted. If for any reason you do not understand any of the instructions, or are just unsure then please do not guess , simply post back with your question, and we will go through it again. Please do the following...ComboFix Please download ComboFix from Here or Here* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your DesktopDisable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. Note: If you are having difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, or are unsure as to what programs need to be disabled, please refer to the information available through this link : Protective ProgramsDouble click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.===============================================Needed in your next reply:Conbofix logAnd let me know how things are running now. BHowett Posted November 5, 2009 ID:153925 Share Posted November 5, 2009 Hi JoeInOburgIt looks like you are running two Anti-Virus at the same time (Trend Micro & Norton). It is strongly recommended that you run only one antivirus program at a time. Having more than one antivirus program active in memory can cause system crashes, high system usage and/or conflicts with each other. So please decide witch one you want to keep then simply uninstall the other one through Add/Remove Programs.Let me know witch one you remove.=============================================== P2P Warning! Please note that as long as you are using any form of Peer-to-Peer networking and downloading files from non-documented sources, you can expect infestations of malware to occur. Once upon a time, P2P file sharing was fairly safe. That is no longer true. You may continue to use P2P sharing at your own risk; however, please keep in mind that this practice may be the source of your current problem/infection. I would strongly suggest you remove BitTorrent . Removing can be done through Add/Remove Programs.===============================================Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Re-run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan. The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient. When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.===============================================Need in your next reply:New Malwarebytes log Fresh HijackThis log And as always let me know how the system is running

BHowett Posted November 9, 2009 ID:155595 Share Posted November 9, 2009 Hi JoeInOburg,Well done, your log appears clean... the only bad things found are already in quarantine or system restore, and the next step will take care of cleaning those out. Now lets uninstall Combofix: Click START then RUN Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the /u, it needs to be there.===============================================Click Here to download OTCDouble-click OTC.exe to run it.Click the Clean up buttonClick Yes to the reboot. Now delete any logs that you have left over on your desktop.===============================================For some useful tips on staying clean, along with links to some freeware to help, have a look at this page.To find out more information about how you got infected in the first place, you can read this article.===============================================Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
