MBAM terminates

Recommended Posts

Malwarebytes (paid) will not load and on startup I am warned that it terminated. It looks like the MBAM files are present in Programs. Running XP, updated MWB yesterday. Have saved event logs and Hijack This logs. I have the MWB key from time of purchase. Norton appears unaffected and updated. What is my next move? I reviewed the pinned items and was still unclear on what to do. Thanks.

I'm a little confused by this suggestion. #5 assumes I cannot access the internet but--I can access the internet (I am using the PC in question right now, if a tad nervously). I just cannot get malwarebytes to run, in spite of having definitions that are 24 hours old.

But assuming I should begin by loading newer definitions, the manual mode in #5 will be older than my file, right? So I need another computer running malwarebytes, with the latest definitions, and then I copy that definition file over to my PC. Will the free version will work just as well as the pro for this process? I can arrange for another PC and load malwarebytes into it-- given some time. I can get a mac more easily but can I install malwarebytes on a mac?

Or would it make sense to start with #8? which says uninstall, run mbam-clean and reinstall, and get the latest definitions that way, assuming it works.

Before I do anything, should someone with an understanding of such things inspect the event logs and hijack this log? Would they tell you anything?

Sorry to be second-guessing your advice. I am just trying to make sure I understand. I appreciate your help.

On the other hand... #5 isn't a bad idea as it turns out....throwing caution to the wind i did go find a PC, got the definitions from mwb, installed them on my PC and restarted and voila, MWB opened up! So I am running a full scan and will post when that finishes.

Yeah, I feel a bit chagrined to have been --well, untrusting. Thanks for your patience.

no problem ;) . If you are infected, follow the instructions below and an expert will help you make sure your system is clean.

Scan and post logs - read note at bottom in green

If you're having Malware related issues with your computer that you're unable to resolve.

1. Please read and follow the instructions provided here: I'm infected - What do I do now?

2. If needed please post your logs in a NEW topic here:Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs

3. When posting logs please do not use any Quote, Code, or other tags. Please copy/paste directly into your post and do not attach files unless requested.

* Please do not post any logs in the General forum. We do not work on any logs posted in the General forum.

* Please do not install any software or use any removal/scanning tool except for those you're requested to run by the Helper that will assist you.

* Using these other tools often makes the cleanup task more difficult and time consuming.

* If you have already submitted for assistance at one of the other support sites on the Internet then you should not post a new log here, you should stay working with the Helper from that site until the issue is resolved.

* Do not assume you're clean because you don't see something in the logs. Please wait until the person assisting you provides feedback.

* There are often many others that require assistance as well, so please be patient. If no one has responded within 48 hours then please go ahead and post a request for review

* NOTE: If for some reason you're unable to run some or any of the tools in the first link, then skip that step and move on to the next one. If you can't even run HijackThis, then just proceed and post a NEW topic as shown in the second link describing your issues and someone will assist you as soon as they can
