MalwareBytes (Premium) + Kaspersky (Premium)

Recommended Posts

According to feedback I've read about running (1) Antivirus and (1) Antimalware for complete protection,
I'd like my MalwareBytes to be on demand, and my Kaspersky to be active.

Do I just disable Malware Protection and Malicious Website Protection on my MalwareBytes client to achieve this?

Also, if my reasoning is skewed please offer any advice or suggestions on the best route I can take for complete security.

I'm also aware that MalwareBytes Free accomplishes the same thingas on demand scanning, but I enjoy supporting this company so I opted to get the paid version - regardless of not needing the active protection portion of the program.

Hi:

Actually, MBAM Premium is designed specifically to run in real-time, alongside all of the major Anti-virus (AV) applications.
MBAM provides complementary, layered protection against zero-hour and zero-day threats not detected by the standard AVs.
But MBAM is not an AV, so one still needs a robust AV, either free or paid.

Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software?

MBAM Free (or MBAM Premium run with its major real-time protection modules disabled) would only be a manual, on-demand scanner.

As such, it would provide no real-time protection to help PREVENT infection.

It would only be able to REMOVE an infection that is already on the system.

KIS/KAV/PURE do not offer "free" versions.

So, there is no "Premium" product -- once the trial version expires, one needs to purchase the program.

KIS/KAV/PURE all provide real-time protection (IOW there is no such thing as "on demand" KIS, KAV, or PURE). :)

MBAM  Premium should work just fine alongside KIS or KAV or PURE.
Many users do not find it necessary to set mutual exclusions between them.
But, if you wish to do so, to be pro-active and to minimize the chance that MBAM and KIS/KAV/PURE will bump into each other.....

The attached screenshot shows how to add the Kaspersky folder to the MBAM malware exclusions.
And the text below lists the MBAM files to add to the Kaspersky exclusions.

Thanks,

Please exclude the following files from your Antivirus Software for your version of Windows:

For 32 bit versions of Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 & Windows 8:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamscheduler.exe

For 64 bit versions of Windows Vista or Windows 7 & 8:

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbam.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamdor.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbampt.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware\mbamservice.exe
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes Anti-Malware \mbamscheduler.exe

Note: If you are using a software firewall besides the built in Windows Firewall, you'll need to exclude MBAM.EXE and MBAMSERVICE.EXE from it as well.

Note: Once that's done, please make sure that if either of those programs has any sort of web filter, that you add the following as a trusted site:

data-cdn.mbamupdates.com
