  1. FYI. The reconnection of the slave hard drive did not cause any problems. An immediate scan was negative for malware on that drive. Thank you for the help. I resurrected the data that was stored there. onedge
  2. The infection was rootkit.win32.pmax.gen. Does your belief that I should be OK if I stay away from the files you specified still hold? onedge
  3. When my XP Service Pack 3 computer was infected by rootkit.win32.pmax.gen, I disconnected my second, slave hard drive and started a removal process. Having shot myself in the foot somewhere along the line, I ended up having to do a whole new OS and program reinstallation to Drive C:. I have backed up data on the now-disconnect D: drive, like old emails that I would like to retrieve. I've been scared by reading about how some viruses infect secondary drives. Can I safely reconnect my D: drive?
