  1. Thanks for your input. I was finally able to get Malwarebytes installed and 46 infections were found and removed. I will proceed with some of the other tools in my arsenal to insure the PC is clean and will repost in the appropriate forum if further assistance is needed. Thanks again for your help. I was a short step away from a nuke and burn of the drive, but it now looks like everything will be saved intact.
  2. I have used Malwarebytes sucessfully many times with great sucess, until now. I am working on a PC that was infected with XPAntispyware 2009. I have run Hijack This and the logs are clean. I have used Glary utilities to clean temp files and erroneous registry entries. After running those and some other utilities such as Adaware I am still having a hijacking problem. When I search google the displayed links do not go where they are supposed to. (ie Trend Micro House Calls brings up another search page) The Windows Update icon brings me a 'page not found error'. I have tried installing, uninstalling and reinstalling Malwarebytes several times. It appears that the install does not complete because it stalls on the last step with the progress bar all the way at the end. A desktop icon does appear, but clicking it shows the hourglass momentarily and then it disappears without the application opening. When I try to install SuperAntispyware I get the windows message that the program has to close, with the option to send a report to MS. I have tried these steps in safe mode also with the same results. Any thoughts before I resort to a reformat and reinstall would be appreciated.
