Hello IndiGenus, I first received this FakeAlert warning from AVG on 6/30. I researched this virus, and tried to manually remove the files and registry entries normally associated with this virus, but have been unable to find any of the files or entries listed. Also, I have had no virus like behavior in my system. I have been manually deleting the supposedly infected file in my recovery directory each morning, and it has been reappearing as a warning in AVG the next day. As of 7/9, it no longer appears as an infected file in AVG. Therefore, unless it appears again, I am going to assume this has been a false positive as AVG is inclined to do. I think it is time to dump AVG and switch to Avast or Avira. I appreciate your help, Sup

AVG detected a FakeAlert virus a few days ago. There were 10 infected files but 6 could not be removed because they were too large to fit in the virus vault. 3 files (actually 1 31mb .msi file that contains 2 others) were located within application data, and the other 3 are copies located in the restore files. I was able to manually delete the files, but the next day the 3 files were found again in the recycler folder (with a name change). I have run Malwarebytes several times both quick and full scans, both before and after I delete the files in the recycler, and it does not detect this virus. I have no noticeable symptoms of a virus and I have seen no pop up warnings as this virus is supposed to cause. Is this likely a false positive from AVG, or should I be concerned? Thanks, sup
