  1. Hello I am VERY leery of doing any removal od any firewall/anitvirus programs. I did that once before with WIN98SP2 because somebody told me that the engine was outdated and need to be upgraded. OH WHAT FUN THAT WAS! It completely screwed up my pc to the point that it had to be reformatted. I realize that the NORTON is 5 years old and I am sure that the removal tool at the Synmatec web site works fine, but as with everything else, bad things always happen to me and upgrades.. I would love just to get AVG and ZONE ALARM for the firewall and antivirus, but I am VERY hesitant about doing so with this pc. I work from home and rely on this as my life line to work and can't be without for a week to get it fixed at some repair shop.
  2. I am NOT a programmer nor do I want to be. I have checked my firewall and anti virus and they are fine. Maybe I am not making my self clear:No problem with MBAM from 03/28/2010backwards. NOTHING. As soon as I installed it,problems. I have install/unistalled several times, cleanit, checked the settings in the firewall. When I turn OFF the firewall and it does update with no problem. I am using NORTON 2005 and have had no problems with any other software. I am not about to start "fiddling"with the registry and turn my PC into a brick. There is something in the installation code of MBAM that has changed since 03/29/2010. Sorry if I am grabby about this ,but I don't fool with stuff that I don't know that much. As stated before,MBAM is a sterling company, and they will respond to this soon,I hope.
  3. WOW! I guess if I and the rest of the people on this forum are having problems with this, I guess we should just live with it. Funny, I had NO PROBLEMS ever updating definitions or engine upgrades prior to this version.45. My NORTON made a new rule and on it went. Just last month Ad_ware had a similar problem with there new updates and it took a "Handful"of people to finally resolve this. I realize that millions had downloaded this and probably it does work like it is suppose to:flawless. One question:how many downloaded it and got the same message and just installed it as another bad code software? Please don't dismiss our plight and ask us to be beta testers for you. Just find the problem and fix it Malwarebytes has always had an outstanding reputation, don't let this tarnish it.
  4. I am still getting that error update message for the version. The ONLY way that I can update with NORTON is to disable the firewall and then it downloads as easy as my laptop with AVG and ZONE ALARM. Your are right that it seems to be NORTON fault, I would hope that they respond to this issue quickly. Shouldn't have to play programmer in order to get this to work right.
  5. Thanks! All are included in both programs. Hopefully NORTON will get this fixed within the week. I am usually very leery of any first time release of new updates because of all the bugs aren't quite worked out yet.
  6. I downloaded 1.45 and got the error message. I disabled the NORTON firewall, temporary, and was able to updated program to full up to date version. I enabled after the update and tried to use the update button, and got the error message again. This is the ONLY version that I have had ANY problems with. All other versions worked perfectly with no adjustments on my end, it was flawless. Something in this version 1.45 is preventing it from "talking" to the outbound port to grant it access.with the firewall enabled. Hopefully this issue will be resolved so so I won't have to disable the firewall every time I want to update program.
  7. Tried uninstalling twice and deleting firewall settings and rebooting, still no help. Using NORTON firewall and antivirus programs.Updated on laptop with no problem. That uses AVG and ZONEALARM programs. Has to do with NORTON some how, but don't know. Sounds like AD AWARE all over again!
