  1. Now that I posted this to the wrong thread, I'll post it here too! Great thread! It needs to be stickied for those that come behind! At this time, I've been using avast! and have been fairly pleased with it. It did let slip past the Antivirus Live fake junk. I used AVG in the past and it let me down. I am now dead set against it, but that's just me. I love the ease to use NOD32 but it is only a 30 day free trial as is Kaspersky but it's more complex to configure. If you ever find yourself buying and want a really good AV, either of those is the way to go.
  2. It seems I posted to the wrong thread? I was reading the one about free software and how did I end up on this one? I'd delete the above thread and/or post it on the other if I could.

  4. Hi Exile. Thank you for your quick reply as well! As I said before, I had AVG which I was quite disappointed that it didn't even alert me that the program had attached itself. Then again, it's slipped past avast! so fast that it wasn't quite able to react fast enough, or maybe it's me that was too slow. Either way, I had purchased NOD32 recently with 3 licenses but we haven't installed them yet. I have still been on the fence as to which I should use. I guess I'll go ahead and install it and purchase Malwarebytes. I really do appreciate the help both of you have given me. Have a great day or evening, which ever apply!
  5. Hi and thanks for the quick replies! I had a feeling if I just read around a bit I might get a response. YoKenny, I feel it's really important to have good safety checks on your system. I too like the layered effect. That is why I have so many things that I can use, yet still I keep getting this mess and I can't figure out why. The first time I was using AVG and well I know it's just not very high up on the food chain so I dumped it and started trying others. Then I put the avast! on for awhile. I just Googled WinPatrol and will check that out further. I'm not sure about the HOSTS but I will also check that out too. I'll do what ever I have to to stop this! I have the tools necessary to remove the program from the instructions I got from bleepingcomputer.com. They were a lifesaver. It's sad that I have that page as a quick link on my browser.
  6. Antivirus Live is the bane of my existence. I have gotten it I think 3 or maybe 4 times now. Those people need to be lined up and shot... by ME. Most came from SurfTheChannel where I like to watch videos but one came from a fansite link posted on MSN for Dancing With the Stars. You'd have thought that was safe! Anyway, what I want to know is just how much more protection is Malwarebytes going to give me if I purchase the full version? I really want to go back to STC and watch videos but I am sick and tired of getting that junk on my system. I've written to them about it but they never respond to emails. I run avast! free Antivirus on my system with Spybot and Ad-Aware installed as well. I have seriously considered installing either NOD32 or Kaspersky. Which is better or am I fine with avast!? Oh and I also have Zone Alarm. So why do I keep getting hit with that mess and can I stop it at all? I tried to search it but the results of +Antivirus +Live turned up THOUSANDS because of antivirus programs and MSN live. Thanks!
