  1. The problem was a bad sata optical dvd/cd drive made by sony.
  2. Is there a virus where it's symptom is to prevent access to a hard drive and spit out a message 'Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to .....' That's what is happening on my brother's machine.
  3. hi noknojon: My pal already has Malwarebytes on his hard drive. I don't know yet if he has scanned the flash though.
  4. I have been trying to fix a machine that was working well and then after going through bios, it dialogs 'can't read hard drive, run Ctrl-Alt-Del'. I thought initially it was a bad hard drive so it was replaced and all was well. About a week later, the same problem occurred. I have been thinking that I will flash the latest BIOS and look closely at the bios hdd callout. The user has a flash drive that he uses every once in awhile so maybe it has a virus on it? Are there any viruses that would cause this type of problem? I don't know exactly what the dialog states since I was told over the telephone. I will physically check it out tomorrow.
