Activision/Blizzard's Battle.net installer/update agent:
Title: Malwarebytes Blocking Battle.net Installer/Update on Windows
If you're a gamer trying to install or update games through Activision/Blizzard's Battle.net client on Windows and encountering an "update agent went to sleep" error, the culprit might be Malwarebytes' real-time protection.
The Issue
Many users have reported that with Malwarebytes' real-time protection enabled, the Battle.net installer and update agent fail to function correctly. When attempting to open the Battle.net client, you may see the "update agent went to sleep" error message.
Attempted Fixes
I've tried all the troubleshooting steps recommended by Blizzard, including:
Running the Battle.net client as an administrator
Renaming/deleting specific Battle.net folders
Disabling any third-party antivirus/security software temporarily
Performing a clean reinstall of Battle.net
None of these fixes worked for me.
The Solution
After much trial and error, I discovered that the root cause was Malwarebytes' real-time protection blocking the Battle.net processes. Temporarily exiting Malwarebytes allows the Battle.net installer and updater to run without issues.
To get Battle.net working:
Exit Malwarebytes completely (right-click the icon > Exit)
Launch Battle.net and let the installer/updater process run its course
Once done, you can restart Malwarebytes for regular system protection
While inconvenient to disable Malwarebytes temporarily, this workaround seems to be the only reliable solution until Malwarebytes addresses this conflict with future updates.
