I was able to resolve the issues by accessing and manually deleting the registry keys that were related to the malware startup items, based on instructions here: https://www.windows-commandline.com/delete-registry-key-command-line/ everything works great now. That said I do greatly appreciate your help and hope this thread might be useful to folks running into the same issue. Thanks again.

hello, This seems to be a similar issue to https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/250372-windows-task-manager-closes-after-clicking-on-more-details/. MalwareBytes (incl. rootkit scan) finds nothing now although in previous checks it found *both* CPU64 AND Win32/Wacatac.B!ml; based on the symptoms and the identical previous finds, I'm sure it's the same issue. Current scans all return clean (as well as Norton's and Windows Defender's) but I'm still unable to open the "more details" tab in the task manager as well as "Startup Apps" without that window crashing. I've found and installed FRST but without the specific fixes, could really use your help. Happy to run any/all diagnoses on my end; I'm eager to get rid of this problem. Thank you!
