  1. The western digital master with windows is now C:. Wonder if it will stay that way when I plug slave back in?
  2. Yes I had followed those steps to do th fixmbr command so I did a fixboot in recovery console. The good news is that it showed up as C:/windows in recovery console (slave is still unplugged.) But of course when I restarted my computer I got the same error.
  3. Correct but it appears that it was perhaps trying to boot from y usb stick. once I removed my usb stick it returns to the same ol' "no boot filename recieved" error. It also appears like some settings were changed in the bios by removing the battery. I had to change my boot priority.
  4. after I choose rebuild bs it asks me to choose between dump, list, and quit. I just quit now the warning says: "missing operating system"
  5. I did the removing battery method of reseting my bios. No luck. same error.
  6. When I choose top performance I get this warning: Top Performance setting is highly related to system configuration. Please check devices before setting. Then I can choose to enable or disable it.
  7. oops I didn't look thoroughly. THe SATA connections being used are 0 & 1. Currently the 160gb Western Digital with windows is plugged in 0 and the 320gb Hitachi is plugged in 1.
  8. There are four Sata connections on the board. They are neither color coded nor numbered. Notice the "load optimized defaults" option in the bios screen shot. That is what I used previously. I did it again upon your request yielding no changes to mobo settings. Why is it now asking me to set up a RAID?
  9. No. We are really stuck aren't we. Would it be a good time to see if any of your fellow experts would provide any direction? Here's an abbreviated representation of what's available to us in my bios. Each indentation is a different menu level and the term after the dash is what that setting is currently on: First page looks alot like this: http://www.legitreviews.com/images/reviews...byte_bios_1.jpg except instead of 'Load Fail-Safe Defaults' I have a 'Top Performance' category. 12. In Bart PE? I tried windows+r but didn't do anything. I opened the run box from th e Go menu, tried to run disk management, and got the following error: Windows cannot find 'diskmgmt.msc'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again...
  13. MY Bart PE doesn't have anything but 'go' menu. I tried it from A43 File Management Utility but when I use mange on My computer from that it asks me what program I want to use; notepad is the only option.
  14. (New Volume)C: is just videos and music. It's the Hitachi slave. (Local Disk)D: is the western digital with the windows install. Surprisingly I have a RAMDisk (B:) too. I never set up such a thing. We'll need to get rid of that.
  15. I don't have any choice that's just the sequence of areas the mobo is going to look for boot files.
  16. Hey Elise, I used your fix code but no dice. My Computer still tries to boot from a CD/DVD then tries to boot from the network and I get the now familiar warning: PXE-E35: No Boot filename recieved PXE-M0F: Exiting NVIDIA Boot Agent This is with the auxiliary HDD disconnected and the boot priority as thus: 1. 18. It took awhile but I finally got a PC to use. Everyone uses mac these days. No surprise. Windows is a headache. When will microsoft take a hint and see how broken dos is. I'm off my soapbox and have some unfortunate news. It is not booting from the PEBuilder Disk. Instead it stops after saying: "Missing operating system" Maybe its time to consult with some of the other members of the malware bytes team to see if they have some good ideas for where we do next? In the mean time, I'll try that whole process again to make sure I didn't bungle something. Let you know if I get different results.
  19. Update: the 'media test failure' was a result of my ethernet cable being unplugged. Plugging it back in yields the previous 'No boot filename...' error. Also, it always tries to boot from CD drive before trying to boot from the network. My boot priorities remain: 1. Hard Disk 2. Hard Disk 3. CDROM I don't think my mobo is recognize my HDD. Would it be related to it requesting me to enter the RAID utility?
  20. turns out that the master is a Western Digital and only the slave is a hitachi. DOH! anyways, upon unplugging the slave, the boot stops after saying the following: PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: exiting NVIDIA boot agent Recovery console sees the drive as C: Also, I found an option in Bios for "Hard Disk Boot Priority" But the only option is : 1. Bootable Add-in Cards there are no other options available. Probably explains why it's trying to boot from my mobo's network card.
  21. Check this out and tell me if you think it could help us: webcast.broadcastnewsroom.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=8658-0
  22. ... I may have accidently used fixboot while meddling and messed up my partitions or something. (Damn me and my meddling and poor short term memory) I have similar symptoms to people with this problem. PS Have a Happy T-giving
