While the icons do indeed show the unassociated/unknown file icon, underneath them if you look around the edges and corners you can see the legitimate program icons behind them. I don't know what it means, but it does mean that it is not an issue with Windows not being able to associate/identify those programs/icons/files/shortcuts so it has to be something else, something I've never seen before.
Yes the original icons of the programs is covered with the unknown file image.

After I deleted all my malware threats using Malwarebytes, then I restarted my PC per instructions suddenly all my desktop icons turned into unknown file type. Please help me fix this.
