Yes, my version keeps saying program didn't shut down right, after before, but then I close app as instructed & then it boots right back again....

    Yes, this is Office 2016

Hmm...do you think Best Buy might help?

    Thanks for all your attention!

    Suzy

MS told me the shutdown issue is a known problem. I strongly doubt Best Buy will be of any help. Try calling Microsoft.

    • In the USA, (800) MICROSOFT (642-7676)
    • In Canada, call (877)568-2495
    • In India, contact 0008004402130
    • In UK, contact 0800 026 03 30
  2. Another update. I closed all the modules of BD so it was effectively not running. It took 2 days, but then the send freeze problem happened. I then re-enabled BD and ran without MB. The problem happened almost immediately.

So I have no idea whats doing it. Outlook 2016 also does not shutdown properly and MS says this is a known bug. Just too many issues for me with no real reward  so going back to Outlook 2007. Not worth all this hassle.

    Thanks for everybody's help.

Just checked internally. We have a couple thousand tickets with the word Bitdefender in them, that includes user logs, so not necessarily a user complaining about Bitdefender. Support uses tracking when the same issue is found more than a few times. There are no tracking tickets for Bitdefender. There was a known BSOD about a year ago and at different times Bitdefender would put up an alert that it was not compatible with Malwarebytes if it was installed. You had to uninstall Malwarebytes, install BD then reinstall Malwarebytes.

It very well could be something very specific on your system that we just have not run into before and tickets on the Helpdesk seem to confirm that. Let me download your logs and see if I can locate anything obvious or not.

Gentleman, I really appreciate the care and support. :) I uninstalled MB using the tool. (needless to say it did not reactivate my license after the reinstall.. I have an old ID/Key license and had to dig it out).

The status now is that MB was reinstalled. I have excluded MB files/folders  from BD and BD from MB. Everything is enabled normally and we will see what happens.

    Thank you!

Well, in general you normally don't need exclusions. I'll see if there are any internal known issues or recommendations.

Bad news I am afraid and so back to the drawing boards. The problem recurred and Outlook froze sending an email with Web Protection disabled. It took a few days. I am reluctant to run BD disabled and no AV for a few days to test that, but I will bite the bullet and reinstall MB. I will advise.

I thought it was recommended to exclude BD. I have also had issues with a  couple of programs like Paperport.

Please try doing a clean removal and reinstall of Malwarebytes (this will remove all exclusions you've put in place and if needed will need to be put back in place)

Uninstall and reinstall using the Malwarebytes Support Tool

What is the exact version of Bitdefender you're using as well

I am using BD Total Security 2019. I will not remove MB and laboriously add back all the exclusions. It is time you had a mechanism to save them which has been missing for years. Adding them is also a pain as you have to drill down to each file one at a time and then go back to the beginning.

Well that's a bummer.  I was hoping that excluding the right Bitdefender process from Web Protection would do the trick.  Have you been able to determine which component of Bitdefender being disabled resolves the issue while keeping Web Protection in Malwarebytes active?

I haven't found that disabling anything in BD allows MB web protection to stay active. I haven't tried disabling it all.... but not sure that is productive.

You have to exclude the individual executables using the same Exclude an Application that Connects to the Internet setting you used for excluding Outlook.exe, otherwise it does not exclude them from Web Protection (it only prevents them from being detected as threats by Malware Protection).

I have everything excluded as follows:

    From BD:

    • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes
    • C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mwac.sys
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys
    C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbamchameleon.sys
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\farflt.sys
    • C:\Windows\System32\drivers\mbae64.sys

and from MB I have BD folders and running processes excluded. (see snapshot)

The problem still occurs if MB web protection is running

Thanks, and how about if you also exclude BD's process(es) as Web Exclusions the same way you did for Outlook?  Does that help?  I'm hoping we can find a way to eliminate the issue without fully disabling Web Protection.

I already have the BD folders from program files; common files; and programdata excluded in MB. Did you want me to exclude something else? If so, which processes? See below.

  9. Thank you very much for the help Exile360. I have a number of options to test now as to which si the most effective with minimum impact. I can try excluding in BD, or excluding the APP in MB, or the outlook folders in MB. I will post back what I discover.

BD has an add in to Outlook which is antispam. That is not the issue as it happens when it is disabled, but it will also handle the case you raise in bold above. I suspect that the module in BD you are referring to is Online Threat Prevention which MB probably covers.

  10. Many thanks. I am not sure what you mean by "web filtering component in Bitdefender". It is not called that. I have BD excluded from MB and vice versa. I was planning to try adding Outlook to MB as per screenshot1 and try that. See screenshot2. Would changing anything for MSOffice help?

I have used both for years and they are effective. I am reluctant to turn MB web protection in MB unless you think they overlap and do the same job.

I have an issue with Outlook 2016 which is seemingly incompatible with Malwarebytes. When I send an email from Outlook, it clocks and freezes and does not complete the send. I have to force the Outlook task closed and restart it and the email is lost.

As seen on various internet posts. I turn off Malwarebytes web protection module and the problem has not reoccurred. I do not want to run Malwarebytes that way. Running the latest version 3.8.3.2965

I sent an email to support with the logs.

  13. I have the same issue as everyone else. I had 2 PC's so corrupted I had to restore from image backups..and I am a literate user! How can you do this to people??

How do I know when it is fixed and I should try again to reenable it?

  14. As of 90 minutes ago I can no longer use Chrome. every time I try to start it I get message that MAlwarebytes has blocked backddor.bot on Chrome.

    The log is:

    Detection, 1/6/2015 10:22:31 AM, Brian-User, BRIAN-PC, Protection, Malware Protection, File, Backdoor.Bot, C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe, Quarantine Failed, 5, Access is denied.  , [b877d91b0287063083e7b253a45e857b]

This is urgent as it happens on Chrome start and I can longer use chrome at all.
