Cant install malwarebytes - access denied

Recommended Posts

Hello and :welcome: , woldsweather:

Are you trying to install from a Windows LUA (limited user account)?

MBAM (and AVG, too, I presume) must be installed from an Admin account.

If you are in an Admin account and are still having issues, it could be a malware problem.

P.S. The mod team will probably move your post >>here<<. ;)

Hi,

OK, thanks for the update.

You might want to try a clean reinstall.
To do so, please follow the steps here: MBAM Clean Removal Process
NOTE: If you have MBAM 2.0 Self-Protection enabled, please disable this in the Settings before running the mbam-clean utility.
This has resolved the problem for SOME users.

There have been other, similar reports, but we would need to wait for staff to provide official feedback about any common thread.
However, the fact that you are having a similar permission problem with your AVG suggests that something else might be going on (e.g. malware).

Please run the the scanner below and post back with both logs attached to your next reply.
The staff will analyze them and advise you further.

Thanks for your patience,

------------------------------------

Please run the FRST tool and send back both logs as attachments to your next reply.

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system, download both of them and try to run them. The one that runs will be the right version.

  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please attach it to your next reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your next reply.
