Repeating performance impact caused by background.js

I see repeating (about every 3-5 minutes would be my guess) significant system performance impact from background.js run by MBG.  Two processes run with high memory and CPU utilization (the system has more than ample resources available, so it's not a resource starvation scenario).  There appears to be regular telemetry and database update tasks as part of the workload done by this JS.  Is this a known issue?  If so, what's the action plan to remediate?
