  1. I really do empathize.  From your point of view "cheaters" are getting a free ride.  While my politics about piracy are different, you're reaction is fair.

If you accept that, can you perhaps consider what other course you might have to rectifying the situation?  As pointed out there's a ongoing effort to clean up the database of valid licenses.  A case by case basis right from the start might simply be logistically impossible or take too much up in resources to be infeasible.

Do keep in mind that the company didn't expect this growth and the initial business model of one time payments for what is essentially a service may not be able to sustain such an operation.  Now that they are in the position to address the issue, this was probably deemed the best solution going forward.

A parallel you might be familiar with already in real life are amnesty periods offered to illegal immigrants.  Now usually this is still a contentious decision but the truth is, its necessary to solve an otherwise intractable situation.  The amnesty actually helps people who got their status the "right" way.

Again I understand your frustration.  As for myself, many years ago, I used the free version, then got a pirated copy then a lifetime license.  I'm more than happy to support malware in their endeavour.

  2. Unfortunately the update to 2.1.8.1057 did not work for me.  Database Version reports as v2015.06.03.03

  3. Sorry about the delay daledoc, I appreciate the attention.  I was going to wait but I went ahead and threw up Comodo Anti-Virus, initial scans show I'm clean.

  4. The system updates are largely because I'm coming off a new Windows 7 install.  Maybe I'm mistaken but sometimes the updates fail when it tries to apply 100+ updates at a time - I didn't notice anything particularly egregious.

The other event logs errors are usually forced from Windows Task Manager.

Hmm, really odd, I can't access any of the links you've posted so far.

http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_clean- link to get  mbam-clean.exe from pinned thread won't load

    http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_check- that won't load either.

This problem is restricted only to trying to get files from malwarebytes.  Any other page loads fine on my browsers.

  5. Thanks for your response.

About 3 minutes after clicking update now I get the message "unable to access update server".

    1.  Is a complete uninstall necessary so soon?  I just downloaded the exe today from the site and made the install today.

    2.  Interestingly http://downloads.malwarebytes.org/file/mbam_checkfails to load in Chrome, Firefox, or IE.  However, I was able to attach the logs from Farbar.
