error when trying to update

I have the free vs. of malwarebytes on my computer. When I try to update I get error code 732(0,0) and the update fails. The computer is running win xp sp 3. I tried uninstalling, redownloading and installing but it didn't help. Help

From the FAQ:

Please note that error code 732 was retired after version 1.44, and as of version 1.45 we now use a new error code system. If you are receiving error code 732 then it means that your version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is out of date.

Please try to cleanly upgrade to the current version, by following these steps:

• If you are using MBAM PRO, be sure to have your license ID and key handy first.
  
• Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here.
  
• It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so (very important!).
  
• After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here.
  Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license ID & key you were sent via email, if you are using the PRO version.
  
• Launch MBAM and set the Protection and Registration (if using the PRO version).
  
• Then go to the UPDATE tab (if not done during installation) and check for updates.
  
• Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray (if using the PRO version).
  
• Now set up any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications. Then restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQs here, or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
  

Please let us know if this resolves your issue.

If it doesn't, we can go from there to determine the cause of your updating problem (conflicts with your AV, infection, etc).
