Can't Install Malwarebytes - Infected with Virus Remover 2008/2009 and prunnet.exe

Hello,

It seems I have a trojan virus on my machine that is preventing me from installing Malwarebytes to fix it among other things.

THE CULPRIT:

Virus Remover 2008 and/or 2009

prunnet.exe also found

I'VE TRIED SEARCHING THE FORUMS FOR FIXES WITHOUT SUCCESS.

SOME THINGS THAT DIDN'T WORK:

- I tried locating and disabling TDSSserv.sys. It was not in the hidden driver list.

- I can't run Malwarebytes EXE file even after i rename it to something else.

- I can't access the Windows Advanced Options Menu or any of its features (Safe Mode, etc).

- I can't access BIOS.

- I can't access the Task Manager. I get a prompt that says that it has been disabled by the Administrator.

- I can't reboot from a CD such as Avira AntiVir Rescue System (because I can't access BIOS or run in Safemode).

- I can't run SpyBot which was already installed on the computer.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

Is this a laptop? Why can't you access the BIOS?

There are some very basic attempts at infecting the BIOS but none that I'm aware of that are really all that successful.

Do you know how to access the BIOS on the system? Maybe the keyboard is flaky or just plain bad.

Please provide more details on the above.

Normally, when I start up my computer, I see a series of things including the Dell logo, etc before the OS starts up.

Since my computer has been compromised, my monitors stay black (as if it weren't on) and only show something once the OS starts up (the blue welcome screen).

Upon rebooting, I have tried hitting F2 (for BIOS) and F8 (for the Windows Advanced Options Menu) and nothing happens. Though the computer is on, the monitors stay black (as if they were off - lights are orange instead of green) and nothing happens indefinitely. I have tried this about 20 times.

I am pretty sure that it is the computer and not the keyboard because I don't see the normal things I used to see when I rebooted before the infection.

I'm not sure that the BIOS was affected. I just can't get to it.

I have a theory that when I hit F8 upon reboot - though I can't see anything - the WAOM is actually still there but the monitor is not registering anything (stays "off"). I've tried using the cursor keys blind and hitting return and some of the options (though I don't know which ones because I can't see anything) seem to cause the OS to load.

BTW, this is a desktop machine.

Please shut down the computer and unplug it. Remove ALL external devices such as printers, and other USB devices not required. The only thing that should be plugged in is the Monitor, Keyboard, and Mouse.

Then start it back up and tap the F2 key repeatedly during the initial boot up and see if you can get into the BIOS

Some models are different and may require the F10 key.

What model of DELL desktop is it?

Hmm, try tapping the F8 key during startup instead.

Hi!

I tried all those keys - they don't work. However, the support team at Malwarebytes is helping me fix this using ComboFix.

That seems to be the only thing that worked! Hopefully I'm on my way to being malware free.
