Can't update MWB

Recommended Posts

I have the following:

Windows 7 64 bit

HP PC and Keyboard

On internal network at work

Have all firewalls turned off

McAfee internal system, currently disabled

As I suspected a bug i downloaded latest version of MB and tried firstly updating it, i aited then got this message:

An error has occurred please report this to our support team

The system cannot find the file specified

I looked on google for this and found some stuff in here about this and also tried rebooting in safe mode, and updating, this never worked either. I did try running full scan in safe mode and it detected two malware files, which i removed.

So I see individual threads for each individual problem so I do not want to follow any of these instructions until I find out what my own problem is.

I also noticed that a lot of icons in my administrative tools do not work, when I double click they ask to choose what program to open the file, i don't know if this is some security restirction with W7 or not but wonder if it is virus causing this?

I have also ran mb clean up and reinstalled to no avial.

So I hope someone can help.

Wow help is great here thanks all.

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
