Windows Recovery Virus

Hi Friends,

I was stricken with the 'Windows Recovery' virus last night. After a few hours of virus and malware scanning and recovering hidden files, I think I have my pc mostly under control. However, I am still having trouble with my 'Start' menu. The shortcuts I have listed under the 'all programs' tab are largely empty. When I hover over certain programs (like Mozilla Firefox, or ITunes) a box that says '(empty)' will pop up right next to it. When I go into my 'Program Files' folder, however, those programs appear and function normally - so I know they are still there, but they won't appear in my 'Start' menu. I think the virus might have moved some of my program files into a temp location.

I am just trying to get my 'Start' menu back to normal. I just ran DDS and I am attaching the two logs here. Please let me know if you need anything else.

Hi,

I notice that you are using more than one antivirus program (Lavasoft and McAfee). This is very dangerous, as multiple AVs can interfere with one another and actually allow MORE viruses to get through. I strongly suggest you go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and uninstall all but one antivirus program.
