OEM windows recovery disk

Recommended Posts

Alright...

I burnt a recovery disk for my toshiba. It uses some sort of image with a load crappy pre-installed software which gets right on my ****. My question is this: when I re-install windows from my recovery disk image, does it fully reformat my hard disk, including the boot sector?

Also what is the difference between OEM and retail version of windows? Why is everything in licensing so complicated?!?!?!

Nice one

If after booting up from your recovery CD you are offered to run Fdisk and then Format, then yes, the boot block as well as the remainder of the hard disk drive and all its partitions could be reformatted. If you don't use Fdisk to remove all previous partitions then a complete reformat of the HDD will not take place.

The retail version usually (with a few limits) will work with virtually any Windows compatible computer. The OEM version will only work for the Mfgr's products. E.G. Your Toshiba provided OEM recovery CD will not rebuild a Dell's system drive.

This might be helpful.

HTH :)
