Hello everyone...

...so, I somehow acquired that lovely OpenCloud Security junk, and everyone I asked about it unanimously suggested that I download Malwarebytes. I re-started in Safe Mode with Networking, downloaded and installed MWB, and ran a full scan (as suggested by my computer peeps). Took nearly four hours, but it finally completed. I reviewed the findings, which yielded over 60,000 infected files. All of the files were "checked," so I hit "Remove Selected."

Well, MWB gave me an "overload" message and proceeded to crash. I literally cried, as that laptop is my work laptop (I'm a graphic designer), and I have deadlines tomorrow. I re-opened MWB and checked the log...nothing was recorded.

I'm now running a Quick Scan (since my time allotment is next-to-none), but here is my question:

Say MWB only finds 20,000 files this time. If I only "check" maybe 100 to remove, can I go back once those are removed and slowly whittle through the other ones? If so, where do I find the list of remaining files? Also, how many files could I SAFELY remove at one time without running the risk of MWB crashing again??

Thank you SO much for your time and help...I'm up the creek if I can't get this sucker going again soon!!

Please make sure you have the latest version of the program and the latest rules. If you have another computer you can copy the rules file from that computer to the infected computer to get the latest version.

Just run the Quick Scan without interrupting it and let it remove what it finds and reboot.

Thank you for your quick response, Ron...

...I have the latest version/rules, and can fortunately still access the Internet with IE (*shudder*). It's happily scanning along right now, so I'm going to just see what happens this time. Already at 38,000 files and climbing. Ugh.

Okay...scrap that. It WAS happily scanning along, and the laptop just totally shut down. I was looking right at the screen, and is just went black. Scan wasn't done yet, or if it was, there was no indication.

Re-started it in Safe Mode with Networking, and it just shut off AGAIN. I seriously might throw up.

I've considered that...so I'm just going to let it chill for a bit.

I've got all my files backed up on external drives, thankfully. Had a platter crack on me years ago, and lost everything...I'll never let THAT happen again.

No KNOWN missing files or shortcuts...but then again, I took immediate action as soon as I noticed the OpenCloud program running. Didn't even think to check.

This is just not my week...this just tops off the fact that I broke both my wrists on two separate occasions in the last five days. :angry2:

Okay well we don't work on actual detection and removal here in the General forum but please look at this topic and see if it helps at all.

FAQ - Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware won't run or failed to resolve my issues

If not then we can still help you in the HJT forum but just not as quickly as you're looking for.

Here are the steps needed to get your computer cleaned....

Please read the following so that you can begin the cleaning process:

You have 3 Options that you can choose from as listed below:

  • Option 1 —— Free Expert advice in the Malware Removal Forum
  • Option 2 —— Paying customer -- Contact Support via email
  • Option 3 —— Premium, Fee-Based Support

OPTION 1

As we don't deal with malware removal in the
General Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Forum
, you need to start a topic in the
Malware Removal forum
so a qualified helper can help you fix any malware related problems/infections you may have.

  • Please read and follow the
    directions here
, skipping any steps you are unable to complete. Then post a
    NEW topic here
    .

  • After posting your new post, make sure under
    options
    , you select
    Track this topic
    and choose
    Immediate Email Notification
, so that you're alerted when someone has replied to your post.

  • One of the
    expert helpers
there will give you one-on-one assistance when one becomes available.

  • Please refrain from making any further changes to your computer such as (Install/Uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc...) unless advised by a malware removal helper. Doing so can result in system changes which may hinder the attempts by a helper to clean your machine.

NOTE:

Please DO NOT post back to (bump) your topic within the first 48 hours.

Replying to your own posts changes the post count and helpers are looking for topics with zero replies. If you reply to your own post helpers may think that you're already being helped and thus overlook your post.
    • If there is no reply from any experts after 48 hours, you can reply to the topic, asking for help again.

      Or

    • You may send a Private Message to a Moderator asking for assistance.

OPTION 2

Alternatively, as a paying customer, you can contact the help desk at
support@malwarebytes.org

You're quite welcome - good luck and hopefully all turns out well and you'll be able to get your work done on time.

I dabble in photography, graphics stuff but just not enough time in the day to work two jobs and still play with that stuff as much as I'd like.

Take care

Well, IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! The Quick Scan was enough to obliterate the nastiness long enough for me to finish my work and make my deadline!!!! I'm in the process of running the Full Scan, but at least now I can go to bed (considering it's nearly 4am...yikes).

I am beyond impressed with Malwarebyte's free program, and will be purchasing the full version immediately. This also goes without saying that the service provided in the forum was prompt, "idiot-proof," and concise. I will be recommending it to both my friends and clients...thank you SO much!!!
