While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.

Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.

  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.

Open HijackThis and put a check next to these:

Click Fix Checked and close HJT.

You need to uninstall Adobe Reader and download the latest version (version 9). Anything older its vulnerable to exploits.

Then restart your computer, and post a new HJT log and MBAM log please. B)

Okay, I did just what you said. When I first restarted this message came up in a little window called RUNDLL:

"Error loading C:\WINDWOS\system32\yacoepbb.dll

The specified module could not be found."

I have no idea what that's all about.

Here's the two log files:

You did not update Adobe. Please do so.

download OTScanIt2.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt2 on your desktop.

Note: You must be logged on to the system with an account that has Administrator privileges to run this program.

  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanIt2 folder and double-click on OTScanIt2.exe to start the program (if you are running on Vista then right-click the program and choose Run as Administrator).
  • Click the Scan All Users checkbox on the toolbar.
  • Do not change any other settings.
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
  • Close Notepad (saving the change if necessry).

Use the Add Reply button and Attach the scan back here (do not copy/paste it as it will be too big to fit into the post). It will be located in the OTScanIt2 folder and named OTScanIt.txt.

I will review it when it comes in.

Hey Tigger,

One thing I'm worried about is logging onto email, online banking, etc. I have not been doing this since I noticed the infection. Should I consider such actions to be unsafe for the time being? Should I consider those accounts to have been comprised already (again I haven't logged into them since I noticed the infection)?

I can't tell you how helpful you are.

Dear Tigger93,

So assuming you find my computer to be acceptably clean, I must now offer up my extreme gratitude. I would have never been able to get through this without you. I'd like to donate some money to your cause. What's the best way of doing this, purchasing the Malwarebytes software?

Also, could you tell me what kind of virus I had? And did any of the information I sent you help to determine how I might have got it?

So, it seems that I was infected with at least one instance of a rootkit. Am I correct in recalling this may mean my passwords are compromised. I have not yet visited any high security websites (i.e. bank sites). Do you think if I go in and change my passwords from another computer then I can once again use this computer for banking, etc?

Finally, I'm on a wireless router. Should the other people who use this router as well be concerned for the safety of their computers?

Once again, I can't thank you enough!

You look clean now, glad to help. B)

Yes, the best way would to purchase Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software.

Also, could you tell me what kind of virus I had? And did any of the information I sent you help to determine how I might have got it?

You had Vundo and a rookit that came along with it.

You should be able to change them on this computer now just fine.

Finally, I'm on a wireless router. Should the other people who use this router as well be concerned for the safety of their computers?

It shouldn't affect them, but I would advise them to run a virus scan just to be safe. :)
