program wont start

Recommended Posts

I have a windows Dell, and have used Malwewarebytes successfully in the past on it. A few years ago I had spyware removed. I just ran a scan of my system with my Avast free version and no issues, but wanted to run a scan with malewarebytes as well. I had not run the program in 136 days it said, so it updated and I attempted to run the program. I could not get it to start, so I then went to add/ delete and removed it, and re downloaded the program. I again tried to run it and still nothing. I click on the icon and it just sits there. I turned off my anti virus, restarted computer, tried running program in safe mode and still nothing. Any ideas what I can do? As far as I know I dont have any virus or anything in here? I have windows XP with all updates

Welcome to the forums topwop2

Have you just regularly uninstalled, and then re-installed?

Please try the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Let us know if this resolves the issue or not, thank you :)
