MalwareBytes stops during scan and takes PC with it

Recommended Posts

Hi there, first post on these boards.

My Malwarebytes free edition copy can't complete a full scan anymore. It stops after about 12 minutes (full scan usually takes 35-40 minutes) when scanning C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\plutil.exe. When I try to quit Malwarebytes, the program won't respond and afterwards my mouse and other programs won't respond either, forcing me to restart my PC.

I'm not using an Apple, but a regular PC instead and I don't think I use this Apple program, though I have older versions of Apple programs installed. However, it's not a new program, so I don't understand why Malwarebytes has problems with it all of a sudden. I have already tried downloading a more recent version of Malwarebytes, but that didn't work. Malwarebytes can still update and run quick scans though.

Any thoughts?

Please run the following scanner and post back the logs

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt

  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt

The logs show that you're running 2 different AV products. You should only be running 1 Anti-Virus product at a time.

You should chose one of these programs and uninstall the other.

Lavasoft Ad-Watch Live! Anti-Virus

AVG Internet Security 2011

Then make sure you setup file exclusions in your AV to allow MBAM

For AVG AV please see the following FAQ on setting up exclusions

Then also uninstall all older versions of Java and install the latest version if needed.

Also run a full disk check on your system and let us know if the issue continues or not.
