tracur trojan

Hello. I'm hoping you can help me. I'm currently receiving help from another forum, but as of now they have yet to figure out my issue so I'm looking to you guys for the solution. For several days now I have been repeatedly receiving warnings from Norton that it is blocking a trojan.tracur from attacking. No matter what I do, it still attacks every few minutes. In addition, when using google, if I click on any of the results from a search, I am redirected to a site that is not the site that I was supposed to be heading to. I then have to hit the "back" button and re-click the search result at which point I go to the appropriate address. I use Firefox mostly but do have IE. It is for sure happening in Firefox and I believe happening in IE.

I have Norton as my virus software. I also have the free MBAM and have been updating it and running full scans and posting results for the other forum that is helping me. I have downloaded some other programs and run them (per their request) such as ComboFix.

Hello and :welcome:

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.

    [*]Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.

    [*]A small box will open, with an explaination about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.

    [*]Notepad will open with the results.

    [*]Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.

    [*]Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Thank you for responding! I was out of town this weekend but am back to tackle this issue. I am ready to follow your instructions, however I am unsure how to disable the script protection like you asked. When I tried to run the program, it didn't do anything after the initial couple seconds. So, I am sure that not disabling the script protection was my issue. Look forward to hearing from you so I can get back to using my computer safely!

If DDS doesn't run, try the following.



Please download OTL from one of the following mirrors:

[*]Save it to your desktop.

[*]Double click on the otlicon.png icon on your desktop.

[*]Click the "Scan All Users" checkbox.

[*]Push the runscan.png button.

[*]Two reports will open, copy and paste them in a reply here:

  • OTL.txt <-- Will be opened
  • Extra.txt <-- Will be minimized

I already had OTL downloaded because the other forum had me run the same scan. Only problem is that I can't find "extras.txt" after the scan finished. I have attached the OTL.txt file here. Can you tell me where to find the "extras" one to post? OTL was saved in Documents and Settings\My Documents\ Downloads. I couldn't find it there though. Thanks!OTL.Txt

Hello, please let me know in which topic you want to continue: if you want to continue here, please advice the one helping you in the other topic so they can close the topic. It causes only confusion if you are being helped on two forums at a time as fixes and instructions can contradict each other.

In that case, for now I will stop with you since I began with them first. I hope that if they end up not being able to fix my issue that I can return to you and have you look into my problem. Will we be able to continue if I seek you out in the near future?
