Hello!

My computer has recently had problems with freezing when trying to run certain programs. The program that is causing the most problems is the new music app spotify...I've been having to turn the computer off manually and restart as waiting for the problem to fix itself is not an option. Oh yeah, I ran a malware scan on it the other day and it froze while in the middle of scanning a file in one of my temp folders. The file looked suspicious so when I tried to locate it on my machine I found the whole file was gone! Very strange, please help!

Thank you!

Aki

Hi Aki!

Sorry to hear you are experiencing the freezing issues. Until a moderator or some of the more experienced forum members can review your post, would you please be so kind as to provide some additional information which will help them to assist you better.

- Type of computer you are using (e.g. Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop)

- The operating system being used

- Name of your antivirus software & any other security software currently in use

- Which version of Malwarebytes you are using (i.e. FREE or MBAM Pro)

- Names of other programs which are causing freezing when you try to run them

- Prior to performing the MBAM scan which froze, were you able to run scans without MBAM freezing?

When you performed the scan you mentioned, did you perform a Quick scan or a Full scan? Also, do you have your files/folders view set to display HIDDEN ones? If you can recall the name of the file/folder which MBAM froze on, please provide that info as well.

Have you tried running a full scan with Malwarebytes using Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking? If so, what were the results?

Thank you!

Thank you for the help! I'm going to list the answers below the questions

- Type of computer you are using (e.g. Dell Dimension 3000 Desktop)

Dell Computer Corporation Dimension 4600i

- The operating system being used

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)

- Name of your antivirus software & any other security software currently in use

Firewall=Zone Alarm

Malware=Malwarebytes Pro(paid for it)

Anitvirus=Avast!

- Which version of Malwarebytes you are using (i.e. FREE or MBAM Pro)

Pro

-Names of other programs which are causing freezing when you try to run them

Sometimes it freezes while using Google Chrome, I recently switched to Google Chrome because Mozilla was slowing my computer down tremendously!

When you performed the scan you mentioned, did you perform a Quick scan or a Full scan? Also, do you have your files/folders view set to display HIDDEN ones? If you can recall the name of the file/folder which MBAM froze on, please provide that info as well.

Full scan..I took a picture of the location where it froze, but it's a little hard to see. To the best of my ability the location was c/documents and settings/administrator/local(new line, so I'm not sure if it's "local settings" or "local", then "settings", either way neither folder exists)settings/temp/and then a really long file...My plan was to go in and delete the temp folder, but I couldn't find it after I manually restarted. I'm not sure how to tell if the files are hidden or not.....UPDATE...Just found the folder by learning how to show hidden folders :)! Do I need all that stuff in that temp folder?

Have you tried running a full scan with Malwarebytes using Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking? If so, what were the results?

I have not done that, should I do that next?

Thanks again!!

Hello Aki,

Glad you were able to display the hidden folders/files. * At this time, please do NOT delete any files or folders! To begin, let me ask if you have set the necessary EXCLUSIONS in MBAM and your Avast! antivirus. If not, you will need to do so. Next, please try running a full scan with Malwarebytes after rebooting in Safe Mode.

If MBAM freezes again, try and take a picture of the file/folder it freezes on, and attach it to your next post. (If you are unable to take the picture, then attach the picture you already have to your next post here instead).

Also, please let us know if the scan completed successfully and what, if anything, was discovered. * Be sure and update MBAM before running the scan!

Are you using the FREE version of Avast! or the PAID version?
