I have a problem with AVG Anti Spam, contacted their on line help centre who then had remote control of my computer and did a anti malware scan using SuperAntiVirus. This scan showed a Trojan /Vundo Variant/F had infected my computer. The AVG Technician says he has removed the Trojan from my machine which is fine. (I hope!). I have carried out a full MalwareBytes scan and there is no trace of it however, the question is, why did my fully paid up to date version of MalwareBytes not pick this up during the scans it makes twice a day, is there a flaw here and if so, how can I protect myself in a better manner??

Ron,

This is a constant evolving (morphing) infection. Do you have logs from those tools that were run and maybe a sample of the files that were missed so we can look into this?

I would recommend Making sure all your software is up to date along with windows patches.

One good tool for this is:

Also what antivirus are you running?

I am running AVG 11 Internet Security.

I have just run PSI and it tells me I have 4 Insecure Programmes, 3 End of live Programmes and 60 Patched programmes. I tried to take a screen shot but no joy.

The AVG Engineer scanned my computer with a programme called Super Antivirus and when he was finished deleted all the tools and the programme itself when he had finished. This morning a did a full scan with MallwareBytes on all my drives, external and main and found no infections. As an extra precaution, I have also done a full scan with StopZilla and nothing was found there either. Have you any suggestions or instructions I should carry out to make sure my machine is clean apart from a re format of the drive please?

Regards,

Vundo is fairly easy to remove and you should be fine is all those came up clean. It just morphs frequently so very tought to keep locked down on preventing install.

Just update the programs as vundo likes to come in through security flaws.

You should be fine otherwise.
