Cannot remove MS Juan

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I hope everyone is having a better end to the year than I am :)

Let me start at the beginning, 2 days ago, I installed GTA 4, a Christmas gift from my brother. It is a legit copy, and I have to say that I haven't "purchased any games from Mexico" since I finished school and could actually afford the real things.

After installing the game and signing up for the required MS Live account, I began getting the annoying popups, you antivirus may be out of date, please install our malware programs, etc. Around the same time Avast! discovered several Trojans. So, I started doing a little research, and trying some different solutions. I disconnected the computer from the network to prevent further infection of the unit, and possibly the other PCs we have. I ran Ad-aware followed by Avast!, both found Malware/trojans respectively, and I had them removed.

The popups came back, so I put Malwarebytes and Super Antispyware on a jump drive and installed on the computer, both found more nasties, and those were also removed. I tried a few other fixes I saw recommended, cleaned out the registry, etc. and now I am left with one Vundo file that keeps coming back no matter how many times Malwarebytes or Super Antispyware remove it.

I hope you guys can help me get rid of this annoyance, as I would hate to start the new year with a reformat, although it has been about a year or so on this current install. Below I have posted my hijack this log and the Malwarebytes log. I also have a combofix log it that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance for the assistance!

I made a few changes in the fix file , Download it again and unzip . Make 100% sure that subinacl is put in system32 .

The file fix that you are running is the batch file fix that pops out of the zipped file , make sure that you are running the right one .

After you run fix run MBAM and scan again . I see nothing that could be holding that key in place any more .

Nosirrah, my computer just won't be accomodating tonight.

I unzipped the files, moved subinacl to the system32 folder, and then ran the new fix file. This popped up a command line window, and stuff started zipping by, this took a few minutes so I got up from the computer, when I came back, everything was finished.

I attempted to start up MBAM, and it said something about cannot find specified file, so I went ahead and rebooted the computer.

Now I cannot get past the windows startup screen. Here I get a window saying "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80090019." When attempting to startup in safe mode, the computer hangs at the "Windows is starting up" screen.

I appreciate the help, and apologize for any inconveniences.

Well, the repair installation completed and now I am left with a different set of problems!

My boot file is messed up, and requires my input at every reboot, and .net framework is missing for some reason, but I cannot use microsoft update without it.

I think the new year will call for a reformat, at least I can somewhat get into Windows now to back up my emails, etc. I'm glad I store everything else on a secondary drive away from the OS, and that has been unplugged since the malware first reared it's head.

Hope everyone else is having a happy new year :)

I appreciate all the help.

Hello, you should be able to download and run this batch file to repair the Windows Update issue.

Look for and reinstall the .NET Framework from Microsoft. I would also reapply SP3

Then go get ALL the critical updates.

This is ONLY for XP DO NOT run on Vista and you should only run it once. Running it again may cause issues and should not be needed.

Then you should be able to edit BOOT.INI to fix any input issues, let me know if you need further advice on this.

You should also reinstall MBAM and UPDATE it and do a Quick Scan

AdvancedSetup, I was able to fix my boot problem with the provided links, thanks!

However, I still have a few other problems with wrror messages and updates. When I first start-up the computer, I get an error message saying that my graphics adapter software cannot find the .NET software. When using Add/Remove programs, it shows that I have .NET framework 1.1 and the hotfix.

I also cannot use windows updates, the page loads for a while and then says it has encountered a problem, please refresh the page, etc. I also do not get the Active X popup. I cannot download any newer versions .NET framework, service pack 3, or IE7. Any time I try to download anything on the PC, I get a small, blank window. Task manager tells me that the application is not responding.

I downloaded MBAM on my laptop and then sent it over to the desktop with a flash drive, and it scanned clean, so still no malware that could be blocking me. I have no idea where to go.

I appreciate your help.

Well did you try the BATCH file I linked above for you to try?

Guess it doesn't matter now. Make sure you get all updates.

At this time your system appears to be clean. Nothing else in the logs indicates that you are still infected.

Now that you appear to be clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Disable and Enable System Restore-WINDOWS XP

This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:

Turn off System Restore

  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.

  • Click the System Restore tab.

  • Check Turn off System Restore.

  • Click Apply, and then click OK.

  • Reboot.

Turn ON System Restore

  • On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.

  • Click the System Restore tab.

  • UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.

  • Click Apply, and then click OK.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.

Here are some free programs I recommend that could help you improve your computer's security.

Spybot Search and Destroy

Download it from
here
. Just choose a mirror and off you go.

Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly
here

Install SpyWare Blaster

Download it from
here

here

Install WinPatrol

Download it from
here

Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works
here

Install FireTrust SiteHound

You can find information and download it from
here

Install hpHosts

Download it from
here

hpHosts is a community managed and maintained hosts file that allows an additional layer of protection against access to ad,

tracking and malicious websites. This prevents your computer from connecting to these untrusted sites

by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your own local computer.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

You can use one of these sites to check if any updates are needed for your pc.

Visit Microsoft often to get the latest updates for your computer.

Note 1:

If you are running Windows XP
SP2
, you should upgrade to
SP3
.

Note 2:

Users of Norton Internet Security 2008 should uninstall the software before they install Service Pack 3.

The security suite can then be reinstalled afterwards.

The windows firewall is not sufficient to protect your system. It doesn't monitor outgoing traffic and this is a must.
