Manual update outdated

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the forums, Gators :)

The mbam-rules.exe is always a bit behind.

If you have access to a working computer with MBAM installed on it, you can follow these steps from http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138&st=0&p=49525entry49525

ISSUE: I need to get the latest database onto a computer that cannot access the Internet.

SOLUTION: You can manually copy the database from a working computer using a flash drive or CD onto the infected PC. Our database file is stored in the following locations.

Windows XP and 2000

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

Windows Vista and Windows 7:

C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\rules.ref

(Just as an information: the GUI will not display the changed database version if you do a manual update)

If you have updated the definitions on the working computer, and copied the rules.ref file to the infected computer (overwritten its rules.ref file), you can be assured that the scan is working with the latest database :)

As I mentioned at the end of my previous post, the new database version will not be reflected on the GUI in case of a manual update.
