HJT log needs looking at, please

Recommended Posts

Can someone please take a look. I'm running Virgin PC Guard which reports me virus-free. I'm also running Windows Defender which is clear and the MBAM scan is completely clear. Most of the time things are fine but recently all internet mapping (google, MS maps) and aerial photography have become a nightmare. They also tend to slow down other IE windows/tabs that are open at the same time. Sometimes the Google toolbar can also be troublesome.

A few months ago I had a Vundo attack but the windows MSRT and MBAM seemed to sort that out...not sure if there's anything left over though. However I don't like the look of some things (BHOs and others) in the HJT log below...can you please advise. Thanks.

cheers Simon

  • Root Admin

Yes your system shows as infected.

Please note the Holidays are here and I may be unavailable for a few days or more.

Please be patient, I've not forgotten you and will resume assistance when I return

Many of the other helpers are also visiting Family and Friends so please be patient.

I can not guarantee that I can help you finish this up for a few days but try this while I'm away.

Download to the desktop: Dr.Web CureIt

  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
  • Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
  • Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
    check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

Then run this

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update

[*]When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab

[*]Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

[*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

[*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply

    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Then RESTART the computer and run HJT scan and save log.

Post back all the logs and I'll help you as soon as I can, but that may be a few days.

Hi Simon please note the following.

Please note the Holidays are here and I may be unavailable for a few days or more.

Please be patient, I've not forgotten you and will resume assistance when I return

Many of the other helpers are also visiting Family and Friends so please be patient.

You need to remove Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 and update to version 9 some of the older versions were susceptible to exploits

Start HJT and do a Scan Only and place a check mark on the following items.

O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: urqOIxXn - urqOIxXn.dll (file missing)

Then click on Fix checked then quit HJT

Please upload the following files for review here

C:\WINDOWS\System32\urqOIxXn.dll

Your Java has old versions installed. Please try a NEW copy of JavaRa but manually choose

from a mirror site to download it like from FRANCE. The US mirrors appear to still have an older version.

Then also check on the Additional Settings and choose the TOP 5 boxes and click GO after finding and removing old versions.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer (or other web browser) before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Then run this again.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update

[*]When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab

[*]Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

[*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

[*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply

    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

Then RESTART the computer and AFTER the restart run HJT Scan and save log.

Post back new MBAM and HJT logs.

I may not be able to get back to you for a couple days so please be patient.

Happy New Year, AdvancedSetup, and thanks for your help.

Here are my latest log files...

the file C:\WINDOWS\System32\urqOIxXn.dll did not exist so couldn't upload for review

I'm not running Adobe Reader 7...it is Acrobat Professional 7 and I've now updated it to 7.1.0 through Adobe's website. I won't be updating this as it's a bit pricey.

Java is also now up to date.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update

[*]When the update is complete, select the Scanner tab

[*]Select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.

[*]When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.

[*]Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.

[*]When completed, a log will open in Notepad. please copy and paste the log into your next reply

    • If you accidently close it, the log file is saved here and will be named like this:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt

OK, here are the new logs. However, I still have the same problems...that is, some internet pages are not loading and mapping sites (Google, Microsoft & others) are a pain in the **** and just don't want to work properly. I have a 10Mb internet line and my work laptop (wireless) is absolutely fine so it's not the internet connection that's the problem. I've also checked the line speed and it's fine.

What about the BHOs in the HJT file...do they look ok to you??? please advise

Couple minor items to clean out still, but let me get this straight.

The same computer you have right now.

1. You take it to work with you and the Internet connection for sites works fine speed wise.

2. You take it back home and these sites are slow or won't connect

3. If #2 is correct, is it only some sites or ALL sites?

4. What brand and make of router do you have?

5. Who is your ISP ?

Hi AdvancedSetup, you didn't understand, perhaps I didn't explain my setup properly...I'll try again.

I have a 10Mb Virgin Media cable internet connection hard-wired through a Belkin wireless router to a desktop PC. Most of the time the internet works fine and is as fast as you'd expect a 10Mb line to be through numerous bits of software checking for viruses/spyware/malware etc. Outlook works fine for my email as does all other software that needs an internet connection.

However mapping websites on IE7 are a complete nightmare. I can search for a place and get a map (although it loads slower than it should) but trying to zoom in and out or moving the map or switching to/from aerial photography view either takes an age to happen or, most of the time, just doesn't happen at all. This happens with Google maps, Microsoft maps (the two I use most frequently), streetmap.co.uk and Multimap. The Ordnance Survey site seems ok but that possibly works in a different way.

The other problem with mapping is if I try to use one of these mapping sites, which then decides not to work properly, and then I want to visit other sites the browser just stops working properly and if I have more than one browser window open with multiple tabs, I have to close everything and then reopen a browser to revisit the sites I want. As you can imagine it's a real pain and at the moment it's best to just avoid the mapping sites...I did use the mapping sites a lot for aerial photography views etc and this has only recently become an issue. It doesn't matter either which order the browsers/tabs have been opened...they just stop functioning. It's as though visiting one of these mapping sites activates some code that IE7 doesn't like which is why I was questioning the BHOs.

The work laptop I referred to is a seperate machine I use for business. When I bring it home I can connect wirelessly through the Belkin router. I tested it again last night before my last post and it shows none of the problems with these mapping sites that my home desktop has. Google Maps works well on the laptop and as expected. The laptop is pretty well locked down for business security reasons, and I'm unable to install any software on it...probably a good idea!

As the laptop works fine I'm sure the problem is not with the line, ISP or router but lies in my PC somewhere. Is that clearer now? If not, please ask specific questions. Thanks.

Ah! I see now.

Well to be honest I don't really visit maps too much myself so haven't really looked into such issues with it myself.

Here are some links that might be helpful. Does this happen in both IE and Firefox both?

Hi,

I had a quick look at the links you suggested but I don't think they will help much. I don't use Firefox so can't comment. I just want the mapping to work the same way it did only a few weks ago.

Can you offer any more help before I go somewhere else? Can you comment on the BHOs. Do you know what to do with the BHOs? They don't look right to me but I'm no expert. Can any of your colleagues offer any further advice?

cheers Simon

  • Root Admin

Well you still have some entries that should not be there so we're not quite done yet.

  • Download FixPolicies.exe by Bill Castner and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on FixPolicies.exe to run it.
  • Click on Install. It will create a folder named FixPolicies on your desktop.
  • Open the FixPolicies folder.
  • Double click on Fix_policies.cmd to run it. Command Prompt will open and close quickly this is normal.
  • Reboot your computer after it runs

Then run this

Please download the following scanning tool. GMER

  • Open the zip file and copy the file
    gmer.exe
    to your Desktop.
  • Double click on
    gmer.exe
    and run it.

  • It may take a minute to load and become available.

  • Do not make any changes. As soon as it's done and the
    COPY
button is available click on the
    COPY
    button.

  • DO NOT
    Click on the
    SCAN
    button.

  • This will place the scan in your clipboard. Paste that into notepad or into your next reply post please.

  • Click OK and quit the GMER program.

Ok done those two...the GMER results are below. My symptoms remain the same as before though. Last night I installed Firefox and the mapping behaves in exactly the same way so perhaps it's not something specific to IE7???

  • Root Admin

Well at this point I'm sorry but I don't have an answer for you about the slow mapping thing.

1. Make sure your Java is updated to latest

2. Maybe update your Video card drivers

I would like to see one more round of update to ensure the system is Malware free still.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

  • Start MalwareBytes AntiMalware (Vista users must Right click and choose RunAs Admin)
  • DO NOT run MBAM in Safe Mode unless requested to, you MUST run it in normal Windows
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Select the Update tab
    • Click Update - (Don't forget to UPDATE!!)

Then RESTART the computer and AFTER the reboot run HJT Do a system scan and save a logfile

The post back NEW MBAM and HJT logs in that order please.

Wish I could help you more on the slow mapping applications with Google but I don't find anything posted that is an obvious reason or fix and I've never experienced it. I went a tried from a few computers and they all seemed to work okay for me on those sites.

Well my opinion on the BHO is just that "My opinion" and may not be shared with everyone.

If it was my box I would remove ALL of them. Clear all cache, cookies, history, etc. Reboot and run a disk check.

Then go back and only add those BHO that I really need or wanted, which for me are very few.

I'd go through my entire Add/Remove and remove any old programs I no longer use or forgot about. Those that I do use I would look and see if there were any updates for them. Review the C:\Program Files\ directory for left over junk after removing any application as well as C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ and C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\ just be careful and only remove what you know should be removed.

I would use a program like AutoRuns from Microsoft and review everything that is AUTO STARTING on my system and remove everything that just does not need to auto start. Many programs auto start for convenience but if you rarely use them then they take up memory and resources that translate to slower performance overall. I would make sure I have all the Critical updates from Microsoft and at least review the other updates and decide if I wanted them or not. Some are good, others are not. I would NOT typically obtain hardware updates from the Microsoft update site because often their detection mechanism is wrong and will often cause issues. If they say hardware is out of date or new driver is available I would ignore it and visit the MFG Website to verify if my driver was up to date and decide if I wanted to update it or not. Just because a driver is updated does not mean you have to update, you need to make a rational choice of why you're updating it if your system is working properly already.

But again, this is my opinion and you do not have to do this and if not comfortable with some of it should not do it.

Back On Topic

How is the system now as far as Malware? If the system is no longer experiencing any signs of Malware then I will soon close this post.
