Malwarebytes installs but won't open..

Recommended Posts

So I got my computer back today after installing a brand new hard drive, so as usual I was installing all my programs that I use. On installing the newest version of Malwarebytes, I found that when I tried to open it or run it after installing, nothing happens. There is no errors messages or anything. The program apparently installs fine, but will not open or run after that no matter what I do. I'm currently running Windows XP service pack 3, Windows Firewall, and with that Avast 6.0.1203. As I said, the hard drive is only newly installed so it cannot be a virus stopping the program from executing.

Any help or suggestions? Try and keep it simple, I'm not a pro with computers!

Oh, I forgot to mention that when I got the machine back all was already installed, so when I first went to open malwarebytes it did actually open, but after the definitions update, then it went on to update the program but after that, nothing. It won't run no matter how many times I download it.

Hello magistrate: :welcome:

Please try a MBAM clean re-install by doing the following:

  • Download and run the latest mbam-clean.exe.
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so - VERY IMPORTANT.
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here.
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license within the boxed version or were sent via email if using the PRO version.
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the PRO version. Now setup any process/folder/file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Please let us know how it goes.

HTH :)
