Conflict with commercial application R.O.Writer

Gentlemen, I was demoing Rogue Remover 1.3.1 to a customer of mine with an auto repair shop. I installed mbam-setup.exe version 1.31.0.0 and ran it for them. They were impressed. However, when I uninstalled it, it broke their accounting and tracking application R.O.Writer. I had not removed anything using it. I just installed it, ran it, and then uninstalled it. The error they were getting after the removal was runtime error '0' in vbalExplorerBarLib. Reinstalling Rogue Remover allowed R.O Writer to work again. Apparently, Rogue Remover is removing something R.O.Writer needs that was already there before RR was installed. I did test this on a second computer to validate my findings. RR must not be uninstalled if it is installed on a computer running R.O Writer. This is just for your information.

Greetings and welcome. It sounds like one of the VB runtime files that is used by both is getting removed when the software is uninstalled. That's odd, though as usually the winsxs folder backs up the various versions of the shared dll's so that this type of issue gets avoided. To fix it, and remove RR without it breaking your software again, you should try installing the latest VB runtime from Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en Hopefully that will fix it for you.

I just ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware on a computer at work and cleaned up a bunch of spyware/trojans/etc. However I got the same error with RO Writer described above after running the program. I tried installing Rogue Remover and also using the above link to download the VB runtime, but I am still getting the error. Any suggestions?

Hi Steve,

You're saying that you too have the same application as the user that originally posted? R.O.Writer

What application are you running that returns this error? You don't mention that you did a removal as the first user did so curious why you'd have the same issue. Might be similar but seems a bit different, please provide more details so we can assist you in tracking down this issue.

Yes, I am running RO Writer as the OP is. The error appears when I start the program up...

I ran the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program (I realize this is different from Rogue Remover) and there were 100 miscellaneous spyware/trojan files detected and removed (Vundo is the only one I remember popping up). I skimmed through the list and didn't see any files that looked legitimate (most were random letter/number combinations) or program/system files. I can't find any sort of log of removed files though so I can't double check.

Here's a screenshot of the errors given...

Well in that case I would highly suggest you post in the HJT forum and make sure the system is clean.

Then you will probably have to re-install the RO program in order to correct the program running issue.

Probably too difficult to determine what might have been removed or infected at this point.

Please read and follow the instructions provided here: I'm infected - What do I do now?

Someone will be happy to assist you further with cleaning your system if required

During this scan and cleanup process you should not install any other software unless requested to do so.

This will help us to make sure your system is really clean so and you can re-install the program again.

I'd like to confirm that Malwarebytes' AntiMalware does cause problems with R.O. Writer when it is uninstalled. Auto Repair shop is running R.O. Writer, updated May 2010. They used Malwarebytes' AntiMalware version 1.46. When AntiMalware was uninstalled, R.O. Writer demonstrated errors messages as above. I reinstalled AntiMalware and the R.O. Writer software works fine.

i had the same issue, after a few minutes on google, the following simple solution took care of the problem:

click start, then run, in the box type regsvr32 vbalexpbar6.ocx and click run.

a box should pop up telling you that the registration was successful.

then go back to the run box, and type regsvr32 ssubtmr6.dll and again click run.

the same confirmation box should appear.

after this restart your computer if necessary and voila you should be back to billing out customers in no time!
