I think I have a virus.

Recommended Posts

A few months ago my computer was attacked by a virus. I did a recovery but the computer froze midway through and I "lost" my files. (My c drive is still the same size but none of my documents are in their folders). Now my computer will turn on but freeze when I hit the start button. Ctrl/Alt/Delete still works but the computer won't shut down or restart on its on- it simply freezes. A majority of the tasks shutting down will end being unresponsive.

I have run Super Antispyware, Avast, and Avria. All report back with no problems. I also ran CCleaner and Recuva on suggestion. Recuva couldn't get my files.

I attempted to download mbam and it would never download. The previous copy I had wouldn't update so I managed to remove it, rename the exe file and download it. Here is the mbam file:

I had to run mbam in safe mode because when I open it outside of safe mode it will load and run about halfway and freeze.

I also ran Hijack This and here is that file:

I pulled up my old post to give more detail about what happened previously:

(I don't know if i'm allowed to link to that forum so i'll hold off on that)

My computer wouldn't load so I did a system recovery. The Recovery said it wouldn't delete my data files but when I restarted it instead of loading my old settings like normal it was back to its factory settings. To my horror all of my documents, pictures, and media are gone.

It's odd because some programs are still available- Firefox and SuperAntiSpyware are still on my system and can be used.

How can I recover my files without downloading software? And if I must, what is the best free software to download?

My c-drive says that space is still being taken up but where are my files?

Please help me. I'm missing very important information.

Thanks

EDIT: Tried to run a System Restore and it won't let me restore to before I did the recovery. It won't let me click back on the calender either.

I'm just so frustrated.

Also note: the computer i'm posting on isn't the computer in question: I can access the internet on that computer now after the recovery. So it fixed whatever the issue was. Why are certain programs still available to use but others are not? My files are all missing but Avast and the other programs I mentioned are still on my desktop and still accessible.

Hi,

You can use Treesize Free to find out what is taking up space and where it is:

http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/

Let me know if you need assistance using it.

In addition, what folders are in this location?

C:\Documents and Settings

Please update MBAM, run a Quick Scan, and post its log.

Next, download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post only DDS.txt directly into your reply.
