My PC running XP Pro is performing really slowly - no matter what function I request. Opening or scrolling browsers windows [iE8, Firefox 5.0, Opera 11.5]; opening, entering data or saving files in Windows Office programs; even opening other programs. I ran an updated MBAM quick scan today & it claims there's nothing infecting my computer but it really seems unnecessarily slow. I also know it's not my Internet connection as this PC is hard-wired into the DSL modem but I have a Win 7 laptop that run significantly faster via wireless from the same modem. Ideas??

I neglected to say that we have another XP Pro PC hard-wired to my DSL modem and two machines connected via wireless (XP Home netbook & MacBook Pro) that run much faster than my PC...

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Please update MBAM, run a Quick Scan, and post its log.

Next, download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post only DDS.txt directly into your reply.

Hi,

Do not attach any logs unless otherwise specified.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new DDS log so we may continue cleaning the system.
