MBAM Memory Problems

Recommended Posts

I own a copy of MBAM for my desktop, and I installed a trial copy on my laptop. I noticed that both devices were reporting a similar error in Windows Error Reporting:

Application popup: Windows - Application Error : The instruction at 0x77752239 referenced memory at 0x00000014. The memory could not be written.

Click on OK to terminate the program

The instruction numbers were different, but the referenced memory address was the same. My first concern was that this was some kind of malware infection, so I ran Process Manager and logged the activity of my computer so that I could see what was happening and when.

I looked specifically at what was happening when the error was reported, and I found one sequence of events that was only present at the time of the error and present at no other time.

mbamservice.exe would query C:\Windows\System32\msi.dll, then C:\Windows\System32\Faultrep.dll, then C:\Windows\System32\WerFault.dll, then C:\Windows\System32\sechost.dll and finally C:\Windows\System32\wer.dll.

This error would only show up when that sequence was run, and no other time. I have DEP enabled, if that makes any difference. Is this a well-known issue?

Not there is not enough information to know what's going on. Please try the following.

STEP 01

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

STEP 02

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt

  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt
