The null value is caused by the Terminal Services service, which runs whenever a user logs on to Windows, has not run yet. It is what allows Windows (and thus other applications) to identify users/user accounts. A bit of additional info can be found here.

As for the protection started/stopped notes, that happens each time you restart your computer as well as when the database is updated (it has to disable itself to unload the previous database and start again with the new database). It also does this to refresh whenever an item is added to or removed from the Ignore List (including IP addresses).
