Hi:

I just purchased the pro version of Malwarebytes. It states that real-time protection is enabled. Yet I am getting a windows security alert that Virus Protection is not found.

This never happened to me before with any other anti-virus software.

How do I fix that Windows Security Alert?

Thank you.

Greetings and welcome :)

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is not an antivirus software, nor is it a replacement for one. It is meant to be used as a complementary form of protection to catch the threats that your antivirus might miss, as our primary focus is on the latest, nastiest threats on the web that most antivirus software either fail to detect, fail to remove, or both. The following are my personal recommendations for antivirus protection along with links to downloads for them (free trials for those that require a purchase so you can try them before deciding):

Note: If you decide to use one of the trial versions of one of the paid antiviruses then you will either need to purchase it or uninstall it completely and install a replacement antivirus before the trial expires so that your PC is not left unprotected.

Also note that if using the paid version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware with your antivirus in realtime that it is generally a good idea to exclude Malwarebytes' files from your antivirus to avoid conflicts. The FAQ contains examples of setting file exclusions for some known AV products.

Thanks for your very quick reply.

I guess I was under the false assumption that the terms malware and virus were used interchangeably. Please explain to me what I just paid $24.95 for? I had been using the free version of malwarebytes for periodic scans and AVIRA Personal Free for real-time protection. I wrongly assumed that the pro version of malwarebytes would provide the same protection as AVIRA. Any way I can get a refund?

Thank you.

To a degree they are, we in fact do detect some viruses along with other forms of malware. It really has more to do with the scope/volume than they type of infections we detect. We simply do not try to catch everything. If the antivirus vendors are good at detecting and stopping a particular infection, we tend to not focus on it or try to detect it because it is covered, as I said, our focus is on the latest and worst threats and we believe in the philosophy of using a layered approach to security so a good, active and up to date antivirus along with the PRO version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware should provide you with excellent protection.

Absolutely, just contact support@malwarebytes.org and let them know of your decision and they will assist you with getting a full refund for your purchase, we don't want you to have to pay for something that you do not find to be worth it, but do remember that the license you purchased is good for life, no renewals or subscription fees but keeping it or returning it is up to you.
