Firefox loading white pages

Recommended Posts

The problem began when I was attempting to download a file and clicked on what I thought was a download link in an untrusted website. When I clicked nothing happened which I immediately knew meant bad news. Very soon after my Firefox started loading blank white pages for more and more websites. I tried all the usual fixes clearing cache, resetting default settings, re-installed Firefox, cleared and reloaded Java, ran several anti-viruses and malware programs, even Kaspersky rescue disk scanner. None helped. I would greatly appreciate a solution to this problem I have attached the HJT file. Thank you.

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Please update MBAM, run a Quick Scan, and post its log.

Next, download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post only DDS.txt directly into your reply.

Attached is the MBAM quick scan log but I could not run the DDS app. I had to download it from your link onto my healthy pc and flash drive it to the infected pc but when I try to run I get "...is not a valid Win32 application." I googled to try another download but could not find a trusted download site.

Hi,

Download OTL.exe by OldTimer to your Desktop.

  • Close all windows and double click OTL.exe.
  • Click Run Scan and let the program run uninterrupted.
  • It will produce two logs for you, one will pop up - OTL.txt, the other will be saved on your Desktop - Extras.txt. Post both logs in this thread.
  • You may need to use two posts to get it all.

Hi,

Not a good sign.

Please use the Internet Explorer browser, and do an online scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Note: If you have used this particular scanner before, you MAY HAVE TO UNINSTALL the program through Add/Remove Programs before downloading the new ActiveX component

Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.

  • Click Run at the Security prompt.
  • The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
  • Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected. It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.
  • Click the Save Report As... button.
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply.
**Note**
To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs.
  • Turn off the real-time scanner of all antivirus or antispyware programs while performing the online scan.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.
