Hi

I've been getting a blocked outgoing ip message from MBAM when accessing various sites. Below is an extract of the protection logs on different days. The first one started on 24 May, and the most recent one was this morning.

from 24 May

11:04:47 Liz IP-BLOCK 217.76.130.38 (Type: outgoing, Port: 52242, Process: iexplore.exe)

13:20:27 Liz IP-BLOCK 93.174.91.131 (Type: outgoing, Port: 54711, Process: iexplore.exe)

13:20:27 Liz IP-BLOCK 93.174.91.131 (Type: outgoing, Port: 54712, Process: iexplore.exe)

From This morning when i went on to ivillage.co.uk

08:55:15 Liz IP-BLOCK 207.58.177.96 (Type: outgoing, Port: 55974, Process: iexplore.exe)

08:55:15 Liz IP-BLOCK 207.58.177.96 (Type: outgoing, Port: 55976, Process: iexplore.exe)

08:55:15 Liz IP-BLOCK 207.58.177.96 (Type: outgoing, Port: 55977, Process: iexplore.exe)

I have the Malwarebytes pro version 1.51.0.12 that updates hourly and ran a full scan several times most recent was yesterday, but MB didn't find anything. I ran Stinger on 1 June, and it found a fakealert virus, I don't remember the exact name of it, but it deleted it. I think it had something to do with a flash update.

I ran DDs (as suggested) and have two logs from that, I attached them as a file, but not sure if that is OK. I also downloaded TCPview as suggested here, but to be honest, I have no idea what I'm looking at so not sure how that should help me.

I just want to know what this is and if it is a virus or attack or whatever, and how to stop it. Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Liz

sorry just saw you need to copy/paste dds text file.

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Please update MBAM, run a Quick Scan, and post its log.

Next, please visit this webpage for instructions for running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new DDS log so we may continue cleaning the system.

Do the alerts appear only on certain pages?

Hi.sorry, I hadnt seen your reply. I only just saw it when i posted another question! I gave up watching after a few days. I really needed to get something done for work, so I was in abit of a bind. A friend helped me sort the issue by restoring from a previous backup. Fingers crossed it hasn't happened again so far. Thanks for taking the time to reply though.

Thanks for letting me know.

I highly recommend the PRO version of MBAM; with it, it's likely that this issue would have been prevented in the first place.

Now that your computer seems to be in proper working order, please take the following steps to help prevent reinfection:

1) Download and install Javacool's SpywareBlaster, which will prevent malware from being installed on your computer. A tutorial on it can be found here.

2) Go to Windows Update frequently to get all of the latest updates (security or otherwise) for Windows.

3) Make sure your programs are up to date! Older versions may contain security risks. To find out what programs need to be updated, please run Secunia's Software Inspector.

4) WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites, helping you avoid the dangerous sites:

  • Green to go
  • Yellow for caution
  • Red to stop

WOT has an addon available for both Firefox and IE.

5) Be sure to update your Antivirus and Antispyware programs often!

Finally, please also take the time to read Tony Klein's excellent article on: So How Did I Get Infected in the First Place?

Safe surfing,

Thanks , I actually did/do have the PRO version of MBAM, I think that is why it was blocking the IP address in the firsplace. Anyway, I'll take a look at the other software you mention.

I know this will be a stupid question but, is MBAM considered an antivirus software? or is it just malware and I need another program to do viruses and spyware, like AVG? I am not tech savvy at all(as you can probably tell), and just do the basic stuff on my machine, work and web surfing. I thought MBAM ticked all the boxes for security, but now people are telling me I need to get anti spyware and virus protection, it's doing my head in! I've downloaded Spybot at a friends suggestion, and it found some things and deleted them, but MBAM never found them and neither did MS security essentials.

Sorry for being a pest, but it is a little confusing. Thank you for all your help.

Liz
