Hello,

I ran MWB scan and it reported that one file was infected and listed it for removal. I hit the remove button without having first selected the file. (I didn't click the box next to the listed file before hitting the remove button.)

Then I got a message that said that all selected files had been removed, but was given no further option toward the infected file.

I ran the scan again and this time it did not catch the infected file.

Did it assume I wanted it to ignore that file?

How can I find and remove the infected file at this point? Would it work if I removed MWB and then re-downloaded it?

Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello and :welcome:

You can check in the Ignore List Tab and see if the item is listed there. If it is, if you delete it from the ignore list and re-run the scan it will detect it.

If you look in the Quarantine Tab and the item is listed there, then it has already been removed.

Also as you stated, you could uninstall Malwarebytes using the instructions below and then re-run the scan and it would probably re-detect it.

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.
