Updating Issue with new version

Recommended Posts

Since installing the latest version of MWB a couple of days ago I am no longer able to receive updates while using the computer over our corporate VPN. Proxy settings settings are used regardless of location and this has always worked with previous versions. If I disconnect from the VPN at home and remove the proxy settings I can successfully update.

The error I receive when using the VPN is

PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATEING (12163, 0, IsInternetConnected)

Pinging the site is never possible, we don't pass pings throught the VPN, Proxy and then firewall at work. No changes have been made to any of those 3 systems just mentioned. Only change is the new version of MWB.

My OS is Windows 7 Enterprise X64 and I'm using the built in networking features to create the VPN connection.

VPN is running Windows Server 2003 IAS RRAS

Never had any issues before. If I uninstall the .1200 version and revert back to .1100 it works correctly.

This is going to become a big issue for me when I return to work on Monday as I've updated the VIP's laptops before the weekend. My gut feeling is the program is having an issue dealing with traversal of the vpn.

Please advise.

What you can do for now:

  • While we review the root cause of this issue you can still download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1.1100 from Filehippo and install the last version before this release and continue to use it.
  • Simply change it so that it does not automatically download Program updates but it will still download database updates just fine.
  • During the installation as it approaches the end it will ask you if you want to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware - just uncheck that option as shown

    mbam_install_uncheck_updates.png

  • Then it will start to launch the program and show you the following dialog box asking to update the database, make sure you click NO

    database_out_of_date.png

  • Then once the program starts click on the Settings tab and on the bottom click on the Updater Settings tab and uncheck the option that says Download and install program update if available

    mbam_1.50.1.1100_uncheck_program_updates.png

  • Then click on the Update tab and check for updates and this time it should only check for and download database updates.
  • Keep an eye out on the board and as soon as we have a fix for it we'll post about it.

I am having the same problem as this person and I am not using a VPN. I have followed all these steps and still cannot get updates. I, too, am getting the error message PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (2,0, CreateFile) and am notified to contact your support team. I hope you are among the support team. Thank you.

@lleong,

Your issue is not the same. Error 2 means the program file was not found. Please try the following and see if it works. If not then you may be infected and can have someone assist you in reviewing that as well.

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Then also run this scanner and post back the logs

Download
DDS
and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
dds.scr
to run the tool.

When done, the
DDS.txt
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt

  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:
    DDS.txt
    and
    Attach.txt
