14 day free trial lasted about 2 hours with v1.51.0.1200

Recommended Posts

After downloading latest updates it installed and asked if I wanted to try the free 14 day trial which I accepted. When the program ran it became memory resident and put up the scan page so I started a Flash Scan to see what it was like. Scan completed with no problems, closed main window and carried on using laptop. About 2 hours later I am now getting a message saying the trial period has ended and do I want to Purchase, Register or End trial !

Is it me or is there a problem ?

Please run the following and post back the logs for your system and we'll see what we can find.

and save it to your desktop

Disable any script blocker if your Anti-Virus/Anti-Malware has it.

Once downloaded you can disconnect from the Internet and disable your Ant-Virus temporarily if needed.

Then double click
to run the tool.

When done, the
will open.

Click Yes at the next prompt for Optional Scan.

When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:

  1. DDS.txt

  2. Attach.txt

  • Save both reports to your desktop
  • Please include the following logs in your next reply:

Can you please try disabling or uninstalling PeerBlock 1.0+ (r484) there appears to be a newer update anyways if you want to continue to use it.

Also disable the Avira AV and firewall portion if it has one temporarily (do not go web surfing while disabled)

The event logs also show your network card had at least one error possibly obtaining proper link speed which may or may not have affected this.

Please click on START - RUN and type in or copy/paste this line

Please click on START - RUN and type in or copy/paste this line

CMD /C netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

You may have corrupted files on your disk. Please try running the following.

First close ALL Applications as this routine will automatically restart your computer.

Click on START - RUN and copy / paste the following entry into the box and click OK

After the computer restarts (make sure Avira AV/Firewall are disabled and PeerBlock also disabled) and try to run and update MBAM again and let me know what happens.

Once done make sure to re-enable your Avira AV/Firewall again.

Uninstalled PeerBlock as I hadn't used it for a year.

Disabled Avira and Windows firewall.

Dodgy Dell wireless card will connect to my home network but won't to others that it has in the past even if I start afresh, for many months it wouldn't connect to mine either.

Step 3 went fine.

Step 4 took 5.5 hours. I know I have a few corrupt files that I cannot delete, they are files I created rather than unknown files, and have run CHKDSK in the past to try and fix them. They are still there after this latest scan. Defragging the disk also takes a long time, there seem to be a couple of areas of the disk that take forever to access/check. About 2 years ago I reformatted and re-installed Windows to get rid of the problem which it did but lasted less than 6 weeks. I live with it, Hibernating is slow but much faster than shutting down and doing a cold boot, hence the long system uptime.

Upon restart after the CHKDSK, MBAM balloon reported Trial period was up. Stopped Avira as it started enabled and then ran MBAM update. It updated to database version 6769 without a problem but then wouldn't let me run a Flash Scan as that 'feature is only available in the full version'.

Avira and Windows firewall back on.

I don't believe I have an infected machine and my original question related to whether there was a problem with the Trial feature. Only Vulnax replied saying they had the same problem rather than loads of others so perhaps it isn't a programming fault but I haven't adjusted the date/time of my laptop. I assumed the Trial feature was simply done on an encrypted delta t rather than any strange programming and whilst I agree malware can disable MBAM and other antivirus/antimalware programs I wouldn't expect them to end a time trial. If hardly anyone else is having problems with the Trial and you think it might be due to my hard disk problems I will leave it at that and just end the Trial.

I have used your free program for years, it is very good, and have put it on numerous PCs for people after I have cleaned them. Some I have told to pay for the full version as they aren't savvy enough to spot when something has got in and do a scan immediately. I will continue to use the program, just thought I'd give the Trial ago to see whether I should upgrade and pay for the full version.

Thanks again.

It is an Inspiron 6000, but the latest driver from your link is

I am running from http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/

Upgrading to this is what got me connecting at home.

It sees other networks but won't let me connect to them which is better than the earlier problem of not actually seeing my home network !

I need a new laptop, the battery is dead too but I'd rather put the money towards a newer model than a battery for an older one that can still be run from the mains. Perhaps I'll go and give the trial a go on a desktop and see if that works.

I have upgraded on a Vista desktop and started the Trial and it is still running after 7 hours plus.

After seeing slashdot87's topic I have uninstalled and run the cleaner and reinstalled on the laptop and the trial is still running 3 hours plus. I even changed the scheduler to run an update, it went from 6775 to 6777.

I'll report back if either trial ends before the 14 days is up.

The same thing happened to me..although it was more like 5 minutes.

I was simply updating and it told me it had upgraded to the trial full version. I was pleased for a few minutes.

I hadn't disabled my other real time protection, of course, because I didn't know I was upgrading.

But malwarebytes was in the exclusion list. If that counts.

I did a quick flash scan that worked with no problems..but when I went to schedule it decided my trial was over.

Quickest trial I ever had.

I went ahead and uninstalled since my task manager told me that malwarebytes was a little confused too about what version it was that I had.

Too much cpu.

I have reinstalled to the free version again.

I would've liked to try the trial since I had been thinking about buying.

So..yeah..maybe I'll disable everything and try again. This time on purpose.

But I would like to know if there's some other kind of issue first.

Please try the following and make sure you setup file exclusions for the Anti-Virus you have installed.

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

I meant to add that I did have some old items in Quarantine and wondered if that might have triggered the fault before I uninstalled.

Unfortunately the trial on the laptop has now ended :(

I am in a different location with another router and using a wired connection if that helps !

I did check it was still active upon switching on but didn't spot the balloon on the tray icon telling me it had come to an end, just when I opened the program. Update still works, just went from 6777 to 6785 upon manual update.

Have just stopped my Trial by turning off wireless and plugging in a cable at home

It didn't happen immediately I had to do an update (to 6794) but as soon as the update completed I looked on the Protection tab and the Trial had ended.

I then unplugged the cable and turned the wireless on but despite doing another update (to 6795) the Trial is still ended

The balloon telling me the trial had ended appeared approx 1.5 hours after the event.

Several updates later, hibernation and back and the trial remained over.

Did a restart a few minutes ago, as it started the balloon came up saying trial was over, clicked on tray icon and Protection tab and am back with the Trial running !

Updated to 6797 and still running :)

  • 2 weeks later...

Start Trial failure here too with latest updates of program & database.

Two PCs (Win Vista Pro & a Win2003 server) display same instability.

Trial Ended pops up within minutes of configuring settings or finishing a scan.

System Tray options for "Website Blocking" & "Enable Protection" irradic.

"Enable Protection" un-checked on System Tray, but Protection Tab in software window can show "Protection Enabled"

On a 3rd WinXPP machine I have Installed 1.51, Purchased & Registered & WORKS WELL.

On this basis, if you have MalWare issues, would recommend skipping Trial & GO for the license.

Using several AV scans in Safe Mode & normal boot mode, detected & cleaned WinXPP system.

I used MRT, SAV CorpEd & MalWareBytes full scans. Cheers & Thanks.
