A friend asked me this and I wasn't sure of the answer. So I told him I'd ask you guys and let him know the answer. When purchasing a copy of Malwarebytes if you decided to get the Backup CD does the CD have your product ID and product key on the label? Or are you required to keep up with it yourself when you first get it over the internet?

I am not 100% sure but I doubt the CD contains your specific product key/licence. The CDs are produced in many copies and not specific for a user.

The back-up CD contains old version of Malwarebytes so I personally woudn't recommend your friend to get it.

MBAM is freely available on many sites such as Bleeping, Cnet , Majorgeeks , etc.

Or are you required to keep up with it yourself when you first get it over the internet?

You should keep your licence in safe place but in case you lose them, Cleverbridge's online support (or your offline reseller) can provide them to you.

The backup CD is for reinstalling the software if no Net access is available to do so for any reason. The version contained would be the version which was available at time of purchase. CDs are not resent when new versions are released.

Just to add...to the best of my knowledge, the ID and Key are not on the backup CD. They are in the confirmation email received at time of purchase. It is recommended to keep a copy of this email for one's records.

Thanks for the information tetonbob! I'll tell my friend that he should buy the Pro version and will have him order the CD as well that way he has something to install from in case something happens.

Why not just burn a current copy once it's downloaded? along with the latest definition updates on the same CD?

I must correct myself here. According to our online reseller Cleverbridge, the ID and Key are printed on the label of the CD. That said, to avoid typing errors, it's best to copy and paste the ID and Key from the confirmation email should installation from the CD ever be required. Also note that a current setup file is always available for download via our website.
