Hi:

I have been unable to use IE for the past 24 hours. When I click on the program and IE tries to open, it first freezes my computer. When I am able to switch to the IE screen, it gives me the following:

iexplore.exe- Application Error

The instruction at "0x03bb666e" referenced memory at "0x00000002". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program

Click on CANCEL to debug the program

If I try to "debug" the program, it comes back a few times trying to do it, but is unable to do it.

I ran Malwarebytes scan and it came back with one file infected. When I try to remove it, it gives me the following message:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.46

Then it tells me that in order to finish removing it, I must restart my computer. I have tried this at least 3 times, but I still get the same "Application Error" when I try to open Internet Expl.

According to Malwarebytes' log, it has been quarantined, but it's not working. Please help!!!

Hi and welcome to Malwarebytes.

Your version of MBAM is out of date.

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here
    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Run a Quick Scan and post its log.

Next, download DDS by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

Double-click on the DDS icon and let the scan run. When it has run two logs will be produced, please post only DDS.txt directly into your reply.

Hi,

Update MBAM, run a Quick Scan, and post its log.

Please visit this webpage for instructions for running ComboFix:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

  • When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt along with a new DDS log so we may continue cleaning the system.
