Good afternoon everyone,

For some reason, the Malwarebytes (free version) program on my computer will no longer perform a scan of an individual file or folder as it would before. I have both restarted my computer and turned it completely off, then rebooted (normally)...yet the problem persists. MWB WILL still perform a quick and full scan though.

I would greatly appreciate any help with this problem.

Thank you for your time and any assistance as to how to resolve this issue!

Hello and :welcome:

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important
  • After the computer restarts, temporarily disable your Anti-Virus and install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here

    • Note: You will need to reactivate the program using the license you were sent via email if using the Pro version
    • Launch the program and set the Protection and Registration. Then go to the UPDATE tab if not done during installation and check for updates.
Restart the computer again and verify that MBAM is in the task tray if using the Pro version. Now setup any file exclusions as may be required in your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security/Firewall applications and restart your Anti-Virus/Internet-Security applications. You may use the guides posted in the FAQ's here or ask and we'll explain how to do it.

Hi Firefox,

I just finished completing the instructions you sent for running the mbam-clean program, then re-downloading the FREE version of Malwarebytes. Everything seems to be back to normal now. MWB WILL now scan individual files/folders with no problem.

* INITIALLY, I had just exited your email and typed the link into my browser to run the cleaner, but it did not work. I then went back into the email and clicked on the link you had included. Back a few months ago when I'd FIRST installed the MWB free program, I did so WITH my McAfee AV software ON...and had no problems. I had also inquired on the McAfee forum site about any compatability issues between MWB (free version) and my McAfee AV software program, and was advised there were no known problems.

One other interesting note here is, although I did disable the McAfee real-time scanning (as you said), after the 2nd restart...the McAfee program somehow managed to turn itself back on again (even though when I disabled it...I'd specified a 30-minute wait before turning the real-time scanning back on.

Anyway, I want to thank you very much for all the help with this issue! (I'll retain a copy of your instructions in case this problem occurs in the future!

Best Regards!
