Hi, I really hope you can help me, do you know why does Malwarebytes freeze my computer? I have Windows 7.

The only way I can get around with starting my computer with malwarebytes is to system restore, and then for one bootup my computer won't freeze with Malwarebytes. Then next restart it freezes again. When I first got the program I restarted my computer 2-3 times without a problem. Then upon running one scan it froze upon restart and has been that way ever since.

I am currently NOT infected with any malware (according to ESET Smart Security and Malwarebytes paid editions).

Is there any method to start my computer without it freezing because of malwarebytes? I have disabled it temporarily but I would like to be able to start my computer with it running. I really appreciate your time and help, I will be waiting for some help, thank you very much

Hello Sebas,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Please Create an Autoruns Log:

  • Please download Sysinternals Autoruns from here and save it to your desktop.
    • Note: If using Windows Vista or Windows 7 then you also need to do the following:
      1. Right-click on Autoruns.exe and select Properties
      2. Click on the Compatibility tab
      3. Under Privilege Level check the box next to Run this program as an administrator
      4. Click on Apply then click OK

    [*]Double-click Autoruns.exe to run it.

[*]Once it starts, please press the Esc key on your keyboard.

[*]Now that scanning is stopped, click on the Options button at the top of the program and select Verify Code Signatures so that it is now checked

[*]Click on the Options button again and this time uncheck Hide Microsoft and Windows Entries

[*]Once that's done press the F5 key on your keyboard, this will start the scan again, this time let it finish.

[*]When it's finished and says Ready. on the lower left of the program window, please click on the File button at the top of the program and select Save and save the Autoruns.arn file to your desktop and close Autoruns.

[*]Right click on the Autoruns.arn file on your desktop and hover your mouse over Send To and select Compressed (zipped) Folder

[*]Attach the Autoruns.zip folder you just created to your next reply

Thank you very much

Hello Sebas4Ever,

Thank you very much for the log. If you disable ESET from launching at startup will MBAM freeze on startup?

Do you have exclusions set in MBAM for your AV, and exclusions set in your AV for MBAM?

While Autoruns is running you can uncheck an item within the run option to disable that item from running.

Please let me know the current setup you have for your AV and MBAM.

Thank you!

Hi again, thank you very much for your time but this program is driving me crazy! You see, everytime I install it freezes my computer so the only solution for doing sth is to restart it in safe mode and uninstall it. I did what you tell me to do, so I have to install Malware bytes again and I disable ESET from launching at startup, I restart my computer to see some changes but nothing, I even put an exclusion on Eset smart for MBAM, but nothing. I dunno man I'm tired to reset my computer pressing the power button to enter safe mode :S I dunno what else I can do :(

Hello Sebas,

Every time you install MBAM your system freezes? Before registering? Or only after registering?

I do not believe ESET and MBAM compatibility are causing your system to freeze. (otherwise with ESET disabled your system should not freeze, it however is)

Thank you for your continued patience as we look for the culprit as to what is causing the system to hang up.

I am having the exact same problem

Just purchased Malwarebytes this weekend and installed with no trouble.

Had to reboot my system and within 2 minutes system hangs with turning circle.

Cannot Ctrl-Alt-Del. Have to reboot.

Decided to stop "Start file execution blocking with protected mode" and now system is working.

Somehow it is causing all system files to halt so the only out was a reboot.

Will leave the exe block wiht protected mode off, but would appreciate other solution.

Thanks

Please do the following:

  • Download and run mbam-clean.exe from here
  • It will ask to restart your computer, please allow it to do so very important

That will clean your system of MBAM. Then install MBAM again.

Does your system still lock up?

If it doesn't lock up:

Please Download OTL to your Desktop:

To Use OTL:

  • Get OTL From
HERE
Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
OTL should now start. Change the following settings
Change Drivers to All
Change Standard Registry to All
Under File Scans, change File age to 30
Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt (first run only). These are saved in the same location as OTL.
Please attach (copy/Paste) these 2 files in your next reply.

Thank you very much!

Hello Sebas,

If you could please provide the OTL log so that I can further diagnose the potential software that is causing MBAM pro to lock up that would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much!

Hello Sebas,

I have a feeling once you put in your license ID and key into MBAM your system could lock up. Getting the OTL log will allow me to view your system a little more in depth and see which software could be causing your system to hang.

Again here are the OTL log directions :)

Please attach these 2 files in your next reply.

Thank you very much!

Hello Sebas,

I appreciate the logs you provided, I am trying to replicate the freeze issue you are experiencing.

In the meanwhile have you added exclusions for ESET and MBAM?

Please add to ESET's exclusion list:

  • C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes [Folder] OR x64 OS (C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes)
  • C:\Windows\system32\drivers\mbam.sys
  • C:\Windows\system32\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys OR on x64 OS (C:\Windows\syswow6432\drivers\mbamswissarmy.sys)

Then input your ID/KEY and see if your system freezes. If so run the cleaner again.

Thank you very much

Please enable register MBAM using your ID and KEY and let me know if your system still experiences the freeze issue. From my experience there should be no issue with ESET and MBAM but some system configurations can cause issues.

Thank you!

Hello Sebas,

I am glad that PRO is working alongside your Anti-virus as expected now. :)

If Protection Module is set to start with Windows it should begin automatically. (The system tray icon for MBAM will be visible showing protection module running)

If you have any other issues/concerns please do not hesitate to create a new topic describing in detail your issue. If this specific issue arises please post within here and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thank you very much for your patience!
