Good evening everyone,

I'm relatively new to this site and I'm hoping to perhaps find some assistance.

I have been told (via numerous sources) that there is a lot of malware which will prevent Malwarebytes from being run on an infected computer. I have been given recommendations of ways to "fool" the malware, and thus permit the MWB program to run. The recommendations I've received have involved the "renaming" of the Malwarebytes Antimalware folder, and also what is referred to as the "mbam.exe file.

Frankly, I have no idea of just how to do this at all. I have the FREE MWB version on my computer at present. (Have a Dell Dimension Mid Tower, running WIN XP Professional SP3, with McAfee AV software present).

I would appreciate it if anyone could provide me with some step-by-step help on how to accomplish the aforementioned folder/file renaming...or if it would be easier to accomplish this by uninstalling the current MWB software and then re-downloading it all over again. Believe me...I'm most certainly NOT a computer-saavy person!

For reference, I have attached a screenshot of the list of files in the MWB folder within the PROGRAM FILES section. I don't see any which have a .exe extension. (Screenshot was made with mspaint).

Thank you for your time and any assistance!

Have a look at this topic here. It's an example of having to rename MBAM, and how to do it. Thanks

PS. That forum i linked to has removal instructions for many infections should you need the help. If you need help removing a certain infection, or would like someone to look over your logs to make sure you are clean, then follow the instructions here and post the requested logs here. Thanks!

Morning Prarie Dog!

It took me a couple of times...but I was finally able to complete the sequence of instructions you provided via the link(s) you cited. I ran a quick scan afterwards. The only item detected was a file with the name, Heuristics......" MWB took no action on it. From what I could discern, it appears this is the mbam file which I renamed "explorer.exe" as per your instructions. I placed it in the "Ignore List."

In closing, thanks very much for all your help with the issue I presented! (Now I'm going to scour this site for info on the compatability of McAfee AV software (provided free by my ISP) when used on the same computer as the MWB Antimalware PRO version). From what I've heard...there can be problems since they both provide real-time scanning.
