Is it possible to use all the features of the Pro version except for real-time protection?

Hello Perrorist: :welcome:

Yes it may. This feature may be unchecked at anytime.

But this certainly begs the question, why?

To use the PRO version without realtime protection (so that you can just use the scheduler for scans and updates etc.), just open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and click on the Protection tab and uncheck Start protection module with Windows. and close Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and reboot your computer.

The scheduler will still run, but none of the protection features (file execution protection and website blocking) will be active. You'll notice that mbamservice.exe is still running in Task Manager, but it will now be using 0% CPU and much lower RAM than it normally would, that's because it is just running in order to execute scheduled scans and updates. You'll also notice that the tray icon no longer loads and mbamgui.exe is not running in Task Manager.

Thanks for the answers.

Yes, I want on demand rather than continuous protection, as I'm running MSE and don't wish to remove it to avoid conflicts.

What benefits would I gain by moving to Pro from the free version if I uncheck Start protection module with Windows?

You wouldn't need to. I've run MSE with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware PRO on every operating system supported by MSE and haven't had any conflicts at all :). In fact, they work flawlessly together if you use the guide in Section I of our FAQ to set exclusions for MBAM in MSE and for MSE in MBAM. It doesn't even hinder system performance in any way :).

You would get the ability to schedule updates and scans as well as the ability to use command line parameters that are not accessible in the Free version such as -silent, which runs updates and scans silently as well as -remove, which will tell a command line scan to automatically remove any threats that are found without requiring any user intervention :).

You're welcome :)

Yes, we have many users, including myself, that use that combination of protection (MSE+MBAM PRO) without any compatibility problems. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware has been designed specifically to be able to run in realtime with antivirus software without causing any conflicts, and while there have been compatibility issues in the past with some antivirus softwares, we are constantly working hard on getting it to work with the software that is known to have compatibility problems. We are also always doing in-house testing with a wide range of antivirus software to verify compatibility, document any compatibility problems, and come up with procedural steps to get the two to work in realtime without conflicts.

Thankfully, ever since the release of version 1.50 of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, there has been a significant decrease in the number of reported compatibility issues reported by our users, thanks to both our developers' efforts to correct compatibility issues on our end, as well as the efforts of many of the antivirus companies to whitelist Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to resolve conflicts and issues, something that we are very grateful for because it allows our users to install and use MBAM PRO with their antivirus out of the box without having to worry about potential conflicts :).
